Now that I'm operating this server (with CSHP), I'm seeing some people getting refused access because of something called a "funbot". Sometimes, the kickee will apparently disable the funbot and then rejoin successfully and play.

Any opinions on what I should say to or do about these people? I told the last one who came back that he would get banned if he tried to get on my server with the funbot again.

    Appropriate? Too mild?

PS This is not a question to bring out the flames against cheaters. This is a question, the answer to which will help me shape policy on my server. Thank you for serious replies.

I am a big proponent of IMMEDIATELY banning people that try to enter a game with a cheat enabled. I don't want to play with people that have that attidude whether they have a cheat enabled or not. The ones that are using these things generally turn out to be trash talking idiots anyway. If all of the servers would band together and do this it would act as a deterent. As it is the guy probably just turned it off and played as usual. Let him get kick/banned from a few of his favorite servers and he will not be as likely to try to cheat in the future.

Kindness - You have been conspicuously absent from my server...

(Thanks for the fast reply to my question)

Hopefully Kindness will be kind enough to let me know when he starts again, so I can join him. I'll most likely be using Azash as my nick, since Snake-Eyes is a little tired lately (hence his lack of real gametime, lol).

Thanks for setting up another server for us to play on Brian. That's cool!

FYI, Some low-life bastard tried to send my server a Trojan Horse last night. I hope to meet this person some day soon. GRRRRRR (showing fangs and heavy musculature)

Azash, Ace, Snake-Eyes: Trust me, you will know when I am back in the game.

The main reason I haven't been around lately is that I never quite got my UT back in shape after I reformatted my HD. My UT file had become so bloated that it was taking me forever to start it up so I thought it would be a good idea to do a fresh install. Bad idea. I had forgotten how much stuff I had downloaded over the past year that was actually needed to play! Now it seems that every time I start a game (which hasn't been in a while) I have to download a skin, mod or map. In addition, I have some strange things happening every now and then that didn't happen before. I just need to take the time to work out all of the kinks. Little things like remembering where I had my mouse sensitivity set seem to take forever to get right. After playing so long with it the way it was, every litte difference is amplified 100%.

Long story short (too late), I'll be around this weekend. Please take it easy on me though. I'm bound to be quite rusty.
                Frag ya later!

Hey Brian, was it that guy that was trash mouthing me last night? Don't know what his problem was. Seemed like he was looking for an arguement.

Sorry about that crap last night. I would have put an end to it had it lasted much longer. I'm glad it stopped relatively quickly. I don't like banning people.

I don't know who you are referring to (although I remember the trash). Did you get his name? Personally, I don't think it's likely the incidents are related.

I have some information about the person(s) trying to trash the computer. Don't know yet what I can find out. They tried to download the TH three times that I know of within the space of 15 minutes. I have to wait till I get home to see if the computer was compromised. I don't think so.

Brian, I got on your server last night. When Sna.....uh, Azash and I were on there alone it was almost tolerable (I wouldn't have stayed if I weren't playing with someone I knew). When I got on there later there was almost a half a second delay from the time that I shot to the time it left the gun. It is very hard to play insta-gib with any lag at all. I never even saw most of the shots that killed me. When it is a regular game with regular weapons you can compensate for the lag by leading your shots a little, but instagib is a lot harder. Maybe it'll be better next time.

I don't understand why, but a few people have terrible pings. I never see this problem with everyone, only a couple of people. Makes me think it's not a problem with my server. Hope it changes for you. If you have cable, that can be great at times and terrible at times.

BTW, here's a map update. New maps in the rotation are:

                          DM-Cacaphony of Silence
                          XXXXXDM-CarnageXXXXX
                          DM-1on1-Q3DM3Arena of Death

(Forget Carnage - didn't download from the redirect server properly)

Unfortunately I have been conspicuously absent from all of the servers. I haven't been playing any games at all lately. Rest assured that when I do get the opportunity to crank up the UT again, yours will be the first server I get killed on.

Just received word from Speakeasy that my line has been moved to a less-used router in New York. Better pings and much less P/L.

Check it out and test if they're right. (I can't, my connection is always excellent)
