  • Soundlooping CS

Ok, i have this problem as long as i have my G400 and play CS. Actually it is not confined to CS but all HL based mods.

The problem occurs very unregularely but with dead certainty. After playing between 5 minutes to 2 hours the system freezes with sound repeating over and over again. tthe graphics are not corrupted. Only a cold reset restarts the system since the keyboard is dead. Why i am only now complaining is because i recently installed Action HL and this particular mod crashes after a few minutes.

I am unable to isolate the culprit but i would guess it is my soundcard. Anyway, here is my IRQ list and a short description of my system/driver setup.

    0 Systemzeitgeber
1 Standard (101/102 Tasten) oder Microsoft Natural Keyboard
    2 Programmierbarer Interrupt-Controller
3 Creative Sound Blaster AudioPCI 128
    3 IRQ-Holder für PCI-Steuerung
    4 COM-Anschluss (COM1)
    5 (frei)
    6 Standard-Diskettenlaufwerk-Controller
    7 ECP-Druckeranschluss (LPT1)
    8 CMOS-/Echtzeitsystemuhr
    9 (frei)
    10 Matrox Millennium G400 - English
    10 IRQ-Holder für PCI-Steuerung
11 Realtek RTL8029(AS) PCI Ethernet NIC
    11 IRQ-Holder für PCI-Steuerung
    12 Cordless9 (PS/2)
    13 Numerischer Coprozessor
14 Primary IDE controller (dual fifo)
14 VIA Bus Master PCI IDE Controller
15 Secondary IDE controller (dual fifo)
15 VIA Bus Master PCI IDE Controller

    Runnning under Win98SE
    Slot A Athlon 600@690
    Epox 7KXA (KX 133) VIA4in1 4.29
    384 MB RAM (128 PC 100, 256 PC133) @115
    G400 Vanilla (16MB SH) PD 6.50
    NIC Relatek V 5.0
    SB128 Creative V 4.06
    Mouse/Keyb Logitech V9.28

It may be interesting to know that the problem exists through several driver generations (especially the G400 drivers since 5.3) and that the problems remains in a normal and underclocked (!) setup. I also have set the G400 to AGPx1 and Fast Write Disabled. The card is forced to busmastering but not using 32bit z-buffer. OPenGL is set to quality and the problem stays the same under 3D3. Haven't tested soft mode, though.

I have had other problems with this rig in between but they were all sorted out more or less but this remains. Any clues?

    Best regards

The problem has to do with the creative drivers. However, this is the first I've heard of it from non-Live! cards.

I don't play CS at all (evil game). I did have Action loaded up a little while ago and played it w/o any problems.

I get it once in a while, too. Sounds like you've got it worse, though.

Sorry I'm not of any help - just wanted to let you know you weren't alone.

I have just the same problem, but in Win2K. Don't remeber how it was under Win98, but WinME works just fine(but WinME sucks anyway).
