  • W2K Problems

I know this is an old thread, but sorry i don´t have time to search for the right one which could help me.

    ;n)

Everytime i try to play a (D3D or OpenGL) Game on W2K my systems hangs up. What to do?

    My System:

    VIA 4in1 4.31
    W2K (SP2 installed)
    Duron 800
    MSI K7T Turbo
    256 MB RAM Infineon
    Soundblaster Live 1024 (newest driver)
Matrox G400 Max DH (newest Bios & Drivers)
Adaptec 2940 SCSI Card (newest Bios)
    Teac CDR 58s
    IBM 46 GB HD U-DMA 100
    IBM 10 GB HD U-DMA 33

I read something about forcing 1X AGP, what to do exactly?

Thanx for your help (......or i hope so....)

    =)

Yes definitly force AGP 1X. You´ll loose next to nothing

    Use Matrox tweaking utility ftp://ftp.matrox.com/pub/mga/utils/t...p/mtstu418.zip

Or force 1x on the motherboard bios

Upgrade to VIA 4-1 4.32 as they fix the 686B/SB live! bug

Try this patch too (I think it´s intended for Athlons, but you never know) http://www.amd.com/products/cpg/athl...n2k_patch.html

See if Win2k sp2 overwrote VIA AGP driver (search for VIAAGP1.SYS - it should be version 5.0.2195.2104 from Microsoft NOT .405 from VIA as it can cause lockups.

And how about your Power supply?

I have a Frozen Silicon Tower with a built in Enermax 430 power supply.

      ;n)

I have installed the W2K Service Release 2 at first

After that i installed the 4 in 1 4.31 Via Drivers

Where to get the newest drivers???

Try to reinstall sp2. It *should* overwrite the VIA agp driver. If not, hack it. After SP2 reinstall, search for a fine named VIAAGP.SYS (note the missing 1). It shoud be the correct file. Now you can´t just rename it viaagp1.sys and presto, no, win2k file protection system will just overwrite it again. So extract Via 4-1 drivers to a folder, overwrite the viaagp1.sys file in \win2k folder with the microsoft one and manually install the file with the .inf on that folder. Cool, eh?

But that´s a long shot. You´re probably better forcing AGP1x. I NEVER been able to run my G400 properly with the A7V at AGP2x.
