Thanx for the tip about DETAIL TEXTURES, that really slows things down ALOT. Now using high detail without that one and game looks great.
Dont know is it overclocking or just the temperatures out here, but going high detail all the way is a sure way to crash my computer. Just turning that detail textures to medium and no problems what so ever.
Did some tweaking and atleast now my matrox card doesnt crash that often. Damn ACPI+IRQ-thingy screwed things up really good. Removed that one and put matrox on to own IRQ and things are looking much more stable.. now i can use the lastest drivers, too.
according to my buddy who works at GOD Games, their are some problems with their code to do the mip-mapping with some cards. Radeons are having the same problem.
Detail textures= a texture layer that is embossed to hold surface qualities(wood, dry wall. dirt etc).
The only solution to poor code is having 64 mb of Video Ram. well they will fix it. According to my buddy GOD games is going to seriously push support on making Max- Payne a good experience on all possible systems.
Yeah, I'm not sure what the Reverend's problem is. I play at 1280 res, 32 bit textures, 2X AA, anisotropic filtering, etc. (basically all eye candy to the max) with no problems. Plays pretty smoothly.
Those of you that don't have the game already might want to consider waiting for the demo. Remedy and 3DRealms put a great package together, but the game is rather boring. Tired, trite storyline, no detectable enemy AI, etc. For me, the new features (Bullet-time, new graphics, etc.) don't add much. In Half-Life (!) when someone's talking to you, at least their mouths move. After an evening with it, I'm about done. Made it about a third of the way through, but nothing really compelling to draw me back. Had I played a demo, I would have passed.
I just beat the game in 2 days... Kinda long compared to other people beating it in 8 hours I guess... Too bad I played it in medium detail @ 800x600x32 the whole way through, I should have experimented more, seeing what I could put on high detail.

Couldn't agree more about Half-life. Paid $30 US for it about, what 2 years ago? I still play its mods (TFC, FLF) at least every other night. What a deal.
I too finished Max Payne in 2 nights. No doubt a great looking game, but $50 for two nights? It really was not worth it. Check out the demo when it comes out.
I just hope that people start pumping out the good mods so I can get back to playing Max Payne... I played Half-Life single player... and I didn't like it so much. Possibly because to start the game you have to wait 15 minutes while you're on the train...
