  • Matrox Marvel G400 and Falcon4

Anyone lese have this combo Marvel G400/Win98 and play Falcon 4? While I can play it, my video card has occaisional problems getting going needed several attempts to get into the game with it crashing at the beggining pie screens. Anyone have any suggestions. I have had this card since they came out new and F4, and lots of other flgith sims, just Falcon 4 seems to not like Matrox Marvel Card much. So damned annoying. I have al the latest drivers etc..etc..etc...my computer has excellent maintenance. No problems with anything. It must just be the video card itself not getting along with F4. While playing it works ok, getting into the game is a pain in the butt. And frame rates are not very good, but I can attribute that to my old PIII450 processor being slow. I have al the latest version, patches etc..etc, it's in an Abit Be6 MB 128 MB Ram. Extra cooling, just frustrated. I enjoy my Matrox video card with the ability for creating video and excellent 2D, Gaming is not it's best attribute, even with games a few years old.

    F4 version?

    Hi Steven,

what version of F4 are you using?

I was experiencing the same kind of frequent lockups at the "pie screens" with my F4 "out of the box". After patching F4 to v1.07 (and latter v.) the lockups were gone forever.

My computer was a PIII-500 with a G400DH these days, quite similar to your current system.

      Hi,
All the latest and greatest F4 addons. I can play the game, but usually have to go through some corrupted F4 startup screens before I can finally have a clean good overlay screen in F4 to set up the game. I think everyone has an eventual crash in F4, but Maybe the PIII 450 just does not have enough horsepower to get the most even out of my old G400. I bet a 1 GIG processor would make this matrox G400 sing and run really nice. Even if it is a couple years old. Just F4 gives it such a hard time. Great looking screen and pictures, when it runs right. I run al the latest F4, eFalcon 1.10 and RP5 both.

        ...sorry.

        Hi Steven,

I feel really sorry for you and still can't understand what's screwin' up your system. I could play Falcon with any kind of patch from the very day I started to use v. 1.07 on my PIII-500/128 Megs RAM/G400DH32Megs without ever having any kind of crash (except for the missions and campaigns).

Don't want to tell you too much about 1 Gig CPUs and G 400 MAXes (yes it is great for F4, can't deny it) - but I actually got my frustrations too: After becoming more and more inclined towards civilian flight sims (MSFS, Fly!, etc.) that great new sim Fly! II definitely won't run properly on my rather fine system - and I think the video board (my brand "new" used G 400 MAX ) is the weak link in the chain...
