  • G400MAX + Gateway EV700

I'm having a lot of trouble with refresh rates. The monitor is pretty cheap so I can only get 75Hz @ 1152x864. However, playing Counter-Strike, my refresh rate is 60Hz no matter what I do.

Anyone know how to set my refresh rate in-game to be the maximum possible?

    I play @ either 1024 or 1152, I'm hoping for 85Hz @ 1024 and 75Hz @ 1152.

Do you play using Direct3D, or OpenGL?
Gigabyte P35-DS3L with a Q6600, 2GB Kingston HyperX (after *3* bad pairs of Crucial Ballistix 1066), Galaxy 8800GT 512MB, SB X-Fi, some drives, and a Dell 2005fpw. Running WinXP.

      I use OpenGL, I've never tried Direct3D. I'll give it a go...

Same problem using D3D. I'm going to try posting to the Tech Support forums, see what they have to say.

[edit] oops, only the win98 solution, sorry

the common solution is to set the refresh rate in windows (desktop) for the resolution you want to play with

[edit2] found something... powerstrip should do the trick, perhaps matrox powerdesk can do it too...

          Do this:

          1. PowerStrip menu > Display profiles > Configure
          2. Switch to the resolution you want to use
          3. Click the "Advanced timing options" button
          4. Adjust the "Refresh rate" under "Vertical geometry"
          5. Click OK to save and back up

Repeat Steps 2 thru 5 for each resolution you need a special refresh rate for. As long as PowerStrip is running and you leave the PS3 refresh rate option at "Custom timing", it will maintain your custom refresh rates no matter what.

"Perhaps they communicate by changing colour? Like those sea creatures .."
          "Lobsters?"
"Really? I didn't know they did that."
          "Oh yes, red means help!"
