  • G450 Millinium on Win98. OpenGL not working on HL

OK, just got my new system up and running. Everything works great except OpenGL in Counter-Strike (mod for HL). I select OpenGL and it tells my that "Your Hardware does not support OpenGL".

    Here is what I have...
    Athlon 1.4
    Azus Motherboard
    G450 dual head Millinium
    786mb of RAM
    Sound Blaster Live!
    yada yada yada

Here is what I have tried...
Have tried running in 16 or 32 bit not 24 (read that on another thread).
I have also tried disableing my second display.

    Here is what happened...
OpenGL is accepted by the system, but the game is all technicolor and not playable.

Are there a couple of steps I can take to get OpenGL working with this card? If so I would love to get this figured out so that I can start gaming again...

    Thanks.

first of all let me say welcome aboard!
is your videocard sharing its irq with any other piece of hardware?
just looking at your specs, I note the 786mb of RAM & wonder if you've modified your vache setting to avoid out of memory error messages!

Thanks for the welcome. I will be honest... I do not know about the IRQ's. My knowledge does not run that deep. If you could give me a little push in the right direction I am definitly willing to try. So for now, my IRQ's have the default settings. In other thread I have read about this IRQ deal. When my machine does freak out it shows two versions of my game on one monitor. Like two monitors playing on one physical monitor. It is like they are being displayed together. This would tell me that somehow splitting them up might help my problem. Not sure if I am making since.

And no, I have not tweaked my PC to deal with my 768mb of RAM. System seems to be running just fine.

        to see your irqs, start/run & type msinfo32/expand hardware/irq.

as for your 2 games on the monitor, suggest you boot up in safe mode & look in device manager to see if you've got duplicate display adapters ie more than one G450. if you find more than one then I would remove them all, reboot & let window redetect the videocard.

This sounds exactly like an old driver bug that occurs when you run a game, then goto the menu and re-enter the game.

Try the latest drivers and see if the problem persists.

OK, well I have checked a few things out. I looked at my IRQ's and here is what they are set to. There are two IRQ entries in slot 11. Once is the Matrox Millennium G450 DualHead - English and the other is ACPI IRQ Holder for PCI IRQ Steering.

Also, I do not seem to be having that problem with having over 512 of RAM. DOS comes up just fine and everything.

I have disabled the second monitor and tried playing Counter-Strike. No luck, just blurry colors again once OpenGL lets you select it.

As far as old drivers go... I just installed everything on this machine just two days ago. I have updated most of the drivers to the newest ones. What drivers should I try updateing that would need to be updated recently?

Any Other helpful hints? So far I am in the same place that I started. I know several more thing that are not the problem now but do not have it fixed. Thanks again for all your help...

use the uninstaller to get rid of previous drivers and install PD6.51 for your G450.

If that doesn't work, download PD6.71 beta for G400, unzip it and extract the enclosed G400ICD.DL_ using WinZIP.
(double-click, assign WinZIP as application to open it, upon prompt, replace the "_" by an "L" so that the resulting file is G400ICD.DLL and drag it from WinZIP's interface into your windows\system folder, replacing the former version.)

              Cheers,
              Maggi

PS: IRQ 11 is fine and your G450 is not sharing it, but needs that ACPI holder
