Beezer's a new DSL user (ex-dialip) and he used to be pretty annoying, but now he just flat-out does his best to keep me from leading, hehe.

Oh, and don't worry so much about final scores Alec, so long as you're having fun. (Not to say not to try to win, heh, but I've found that whether I win or lose, I always have more fun playing with you guys than elsewhere).

Thanks Greebe. I figured out what my problem was, and it was caused by lack of experience with IRC. Come to think of it, the last time I used it was with MU.

So Beezer beat me to broadband in the Bay Area. And in the mean time I have even moved (still in Bay Area), to become the ultimate HPB....a connection of 26400 is a miracle. No DSL at my current address, but cable is supposedly available. However, trying to get it has been going on for months.

I should be connected in the next few weeks. Once that's taken care of, I'll find you all.

After I meet you guys at the UT chat box, where do I find the server you´re playing in? Is there a way to trace you?

                      Getting Smacked around...

Good times these last few days...Played against Beez and Kruzin (yes, he Lives!). Beez even let his kids take over and Thrash me! (I guess I'm just not a challenge). For what it's worth, once you left, Beez, I owned that server. Okay, it isn't worth squat, but maybe I'll have some measure of revenge tonight or tomorrow night, whenever I get a minute and you're there.
Thanks for the great matches....and everyone else....get yer butts in there!

This message Edited for poor spelling....

Lizzie...I have an currently unused copy of UT that came with my SBLive! Platinum. I played it a few times but didn't really like it. Takes some looking around to get the UT patch that will work on the Creative version though.

As long as you're using the Unreal Tournament chat, you can double-click the name of the person you want to check on. This will create another tab in the chat window, representing a private chat with the individual you clicked on. Just type something (anything at all, seriously) to the person, and watch the response. If the person is playing on a server somewhere, their UT will return a message that they are away, including a clickable link containing the server ip (formatted similar to unreal://xx.xxx.xxx.xxx:xxxx). Just click on the link, and your UT will attempt to connect to that server, and assuming it is successful, you can begin playing there.

If no message at all is displayed in response, then the person has either left chat, isn't in UT's chat (instead using mIRC, Trillian, etc.), or is in UT's chat, but isn't paying attention. At least, this is the way it's supposed to work. Something strange about the enterthegame.com IRC network now sometimes causes this to happen when people ARE actually in a server somewhere, instead of reporting their location with the link. A tipoff that this is the reason for the lack of response is usually visible by the flashing system tab, under which you will usually see a message about 'too many aways- flood control activated' if it occurs.

I've also found it useful to irritate the snot out of the others when I KNOW that they're in a server, but I can't see it's info. This is pretty easy, since anything you send as a private message (the window that opens when you double-click their name in the main room) is displayed as white text in their message area(spectators comments in UT servers look the same, if you've ever seen them). All I usually do is repeat a few times that I can't see what server they're in (just enough that I'm sure they've seen it in the midst of all the carnage that's otherwise unworthy of distracting their attention from my message, and then wait for a few minutes to see if they will reply. If they don't reply, I usually head somewhere else, keeping an eye out for similar messages from them in my message area of the game (the message area where you see what others say in-game).

If this is confusing I'm sorry. I've typed it up once before, and Jorden was kind enough to either copy it, or at least link to it, from The FAQ Files forum, and I may have been a bit more clear at that time. Unfortunately we used the name UT for Unreal Tournament in that topic, and the search engine doesn't allow such short strings in searches, and I haven't been able to locate that one to refer to, so I regurgitated the explanation as best I can. If you need more clarification, feel free to ask any of the regulars in the chat room next time you're there, since most of us have used this since we discovered the feature.
