  • Game server officially dead...

In case you haven't heard/read the news yet, the MGI game server is officially dead:

Our only hope now is that another MURCer can spare the bandwidth/computer resources to run us a server, or that Matrox comes out with a killer gaming card that will boost the PR dept's interest in catering to those of us who enjoy gaming our nights away...
    Core2 Duo E7500 2.93, Asus P5Q Pro Turbo, 4gig 1066 DDR2, 1gig Asus ENGTS250, SB X-Fi Gamer ,WD Caviar Black 1tb, Plextor PX-880SA, Dual Samsung 2494s

With all fo the techie people around here, surely there is a MURCer out there with access to a T-1 or better that can hook us up.

As I said in the other thread, once I get some routing issues sorted out with my ISP and upgrade my PC I'll have some parts left over that can make a decent TFC server. I have enough bandwidth for a medium-sized server (768kbps SDSL line), but it is shared among several machines around the house

I know Brian R (aka Elvis) still has his UT server up and running. However, it's usually quite busy with "Last Man Standing" mod. I bet if we asked nicely he let us reserve it occasionally for some MU Hammer Matches.
My rig: P4 3.0GHz; Asus P4C800E; 1GB DDR 3200; AIW Radeon 9800 Pro; WD 120GB SATA; Plextor DVD burner; Liteon DVD reader; Audigy 2ZS; Logitech Z560 4.1; NEC FE991SB

Kid's rig: AMD XP 1600+; 512MB ram; GF4 Ti4600; Maxtor 60GB; Plextor CD burner; Sony DVD reader; SB Live; Cambridge 4.1 speakers; NEC FE991SB

        Other kid's rig: Athlon 2700+; ASUS A7N8X mobo; 512MB PC3200 ram; GF4 Ti4600; Maxtor 80GB; SB Live; Cambridge 2.1; NEC FE991SB; Liteon DVD-ROM

I'm going to try to set up one on my duallie I can't post an exact date. But just watch this thread. I've got ADSL with a download and upload limit so that's one of the main problems .
          Main: Dual Xeon LV2.4Ghz@3.1Ghz | 3X21" | NVidia 6800 | 2Gb DDR | SCSI
          Second: Dual PIII 1GHz | 21" Monitor | G200MMS + Quadro 2 Pro | 512MB ECC SDRAM | SCSI
          Third: Apple G4 450Mhz | 21" Monitor | Radeon 8500 | 1,5Gb SDRAM | SCSI

Whats the bandwidth requirements per player for UT?
I know with TFC it was supposed to be about 28kbits/sec for acceptable performance.
My cable modem only does 128kbits upstream, so I'm limited to a 4 player TFC server
            Athlon XP-64/3200, 1gb PC3200, 512mb Radeon X1950Pro AGP, Dell 2005fwp, Logitech G5, IBM model M.

hmm I'm going to have the same problem only 128 Kbps upstream. Does anybody know the exact bandwith requirements per player for any game? (RTCW, Elite force, UT)
              Main: Dual Xeon LV2.4Ghz@3.1Ghz | 3X21" | NVidia 6800 | 2Gb DDR | SCSI
              Second: Dual PIII 1GHz | 21" Monitor | G200MMS + Quadro 2 Pro | 512MB ECC SDRAM | SCSI

i have heard the requirement for quake2 is very low, i donĀ“t know the exact requirement, but it was designed with 33,6kbs(for the client) in mind.
This sig is a shameless atempt to make my post look bigger.

You guys are welcome to reserve my server anytime for UT.

There is no set bandwidth requirement for UT. There are many variables that can be defined and all of them affect the individual client bandwidth. Just for reference, I have my server normally set up for 10 players and 4 spectators with a NetMacTickRate=35 and MaxClientRate=7000. With these parameters, each client requires about 43 kbs upload and download bandwidth.
