  • New Parhelia UT2k3 Surround Gaming screenshot

I got a little something from R0M over at Matrox.
A shiney new screen grab from UT2003 at a resolution of 3840x1024

    Warning: <A HREF="http://www.matrox.com/mga/media_center/artwork/parhelia512/surround_gaming.cfm" target=_new>HUGE PIC!</A>

R0M says there are plenty more screenies from this and other games to come in the next few days (like when Ant gets back from vacation, and can post them on MURC ).

    [edit]
note: the picture is no longer at the previous link. Matrox has posted the pic themselves, along with several other Surround Gaming pics here:

      Hey Guys,
As Kruzin mentioned, this is just a teaser of what we're showing at E3 and more. In the next few days, there will be other screenshots taken from your favorite games, except they are in Surround Gaming mode so stay tuned,

In order for Surround Gaming to work, you need to have the following:

          - Custom video resolution support (Some games only allow 640,800,1024 etc...) Without that, you can't have it. There are ways you can edit .ini or hack the registry, but usually it's not supported.
          - Adjustable FOV (This is important, for FPS such as Quake 3, SOF2, UT 2003 and so on), without this, again things will look stretched.
          - Aspect ratio needs to be maintained (Some games lose the vertical size) ie: 4:3 to 4:1

Like i said before, we are trying to compile a huge list of what works fine, good and great with Surround Gaming.

Right now i am working with several developers on supporting true Surround Gaming, which is the equivalent of 3 viewports. This will show in games like IG3 where we have something happening on each screen. There will be other surprises happening on E3, which are games running on Parhelia but not been announced yet, yet they're running in Surround Gaming and so on....

So to answer your questions, if Mechwarrior 4 supports all those requirements then it should be a Surround Gaming title,

          Regards,

Yep, very realistic. Or were you referring to the darker gray rectangular part of the ground?

This pic is wonderful.. makes me want to get UT2003 as soon as it comes out.. wish i could afford the monitors too.

The one thing that bugs me in the photo is the chain link fence. Looks kinda choppy there.. might be just a particularly difficult thing to interpret as an "edge."

Why is it called tourist season, if we can't shoot at them?

                            Very impressive.

Just one thing: it seems as if (F)AA was not enabled - correct me if I'm wrong.

                              Hi wulfman,

it seems as if FAA wasn't used in the screenshot. But the alpha-blended textures look nice, very nice indeed.

Hmm. The Matrox marketing blurb re:E3 on matrox.com implies a rather aggressive stance by the company. I like it.

Too bad NV is sponsoring PCs for Activision at E3 . . . hardly a chance to see DooM3 on Parhelia, I believe.
