  • Mod reviews?

I recently unearthed some old games, and I was wondering if anyone had any resources to find only the best mods for the following games:

    Quake 1/2
    Half Life

    Thanks for any help.

The best Quake 2 mod is CTF (Capture the Flag).

The best Half-life mod is Counter Strike. www.counter-strike.net

Team Fortress Classic - TFC (or Team Fortress 1.5 as Valve like calling it now) is excellent, and is included in Half-Life update patches.

Day of Defeat is another excellent mod for Half-Life - www.dayofdefeatmod.com

Thought I'd add Quakeworld for Q1 (sorry, no link!)

What kind of mods do you like? Realistic warfare? WWII? JailBreak? RocketArena? Or are you more inclined towards total conversions for single player?

Also, check out Quake2maX for some extra graphics loveliness, and QuakeGL for the earlier game.

As a HPW (no DSL), I am mainily interested in single player map packs/TCs.

BTW, thanks for the suggestions. TFC, DoD and CS are fun!

I quite like the DOD mod for halflife,( World War2).

But the latest patch for halflife contains the Ricochet mod, its a discs of tron type thing, I find it quite cool, its refreshningly different and the colours ar kind of psychedelic

the DMC mod for hlaflife is okay(quake for halflife )

Check out the planet websites, www.planetquake.com and www.planethalflife.com - probably a good starting point.

If you want to play CounterStrike against bots, try RealBot I believe. Last time I played it was a target at least, whilst I learnt the maps Might be better this time.

Yeah, its a good idea to practise CS against BOTs so you don't look crap when you first play online I learnt the hard way

Regarding specific BOTs, by far the best BOT for CS (IMHO) is POD-Bot. In fact it must be highly regarded, as the bloke that wrote it is doing the BOTs for 'Counter-Strike: Condition Zero'.

For a quite good Q2 mod, you may want to check http://www.planetgloom.com that is if you liked any of the alien or starship troopers movies... if not then don't bother...

if you decide the use the custom gl renderer for it named sulgl, then you will need a mighty gfx card, too, because eventhough it's only Q2, it uses stencil buffered shadows, shaders, high res textures, transparency etc...
Someday, we'll look back on this, laugh nervously and change the subject.
