  • High Heat Baseball 2003 on G400

I'm having troubles getting this game to run on my boy's G400 powered system. The game requires directX 8.1 which is indeed on that system. It just crashes back to the desktop at startup. Played with desktop settings (small font, 16bit vs 32bit, resolution) with no success.

The developer (3DO) says the G400 is not dx8 compatible and that's why it won't run. Everything else on that system (tons of games) run fine. DX diagnostics passes every test.

Does anyone have this game running successfully with a G400? I had a similar problem earlier this year with an earlier version of this game (2001). By updating the Bios, the problem was resolved. I think I still have the most recent bios (2.1-35).

I know I'm running on an old driver version so I'll play around with some newer ones, but my other stuff seems to be pretty stable with the drivers I have.

    Specs:
    PIII 850Mz
    256 RAM
    Win98se
    32MB (vanilla) G400: driver package 6.10.013; power desk 6.20.028; display driver 4.12.01.1700

Kid's rig: AMD XP 1600+; 512MB ram; GF4 Ti4600; Maxtor 60GB; Plextor CD burner; Sony DVD reader; SB Live; Cambridge 4.1 speakers; NEC FE991SB

    Other kid's rig: Athlon 2700+; ASUS A7N8X mobo; 512MB PC3200 ram; GF4 Ti4600; Maxtor 80GB; SB Live; Cambridge 2.1; NEC FE991SB; Liteon DVD-ROM

Try 6.82. They fixed some problems and made a lot of games run at least smoother. Maybe they can fix this. It is definitely worth a try.

I've ran the game fine on a g400. Get the 6.82 drivers.

BTW, 3d doh! are useless-- don't listen to them.

I loaded the 6.82 drivers -- didn't help. I'm stumped. The older High Heat 2001 game loads, but the 2003 version won't. I adjusted just about every setting in the Powerdesk Options and Performance tabs, but nothing made a difference.
If it's not the video card, I wonder what else it could be... don't even get any error messages... I loaded the game on my other kid's computer (AMD 1700+, GF3, WinXP, 512MB) and it's running fine.

Heed: you seem to be able to run it with your G400. What is the rest of your setup?

I think your problem may be with the cd copy protection and the cd-rom drive. I had a friend who tried everything to get it to run and it wouldn't-- until I told him to get the no-cd exe-- worked perfectly after that.

Try http://gamecopyworld.com for a no-cd exe-- I would bet that it will fix the prob. Or you could try swapping out the cd drive.

Excellent suggestion, Heed. I finally got a chance to try the noCD crack and it did the trick!
              Thanks again.
