  • Anyone else playing Warcraft 3?

Howdy all. I picked up the game today, and I must say, it's awesome. I must also say I suck quite heartily, as I have with RTS games since times creation, but it's still fun to play. I'd recommend it to everyone, especially considering it plays perfectly even on a G400.

Excellent to hear it runs good on G400.

I have finished the Prologue, The Human and the Undead campaigns and am working on the Orc campaign right now. After this is the Elf campaign then I am done with the single player. It is a VERY addictive game.

The other night I was playing and I heard a radio playing in my bedroom. I walked in there to check it out and realized that it was my alarm (set to go off at 5am!). I had played all night and didn't even realize it. If you had asked me what time it was I would have told you it was around midnight. LOL

I just bought it, and I have again the "fastest" FSAA problem on my V5 5500, like I have with many Direct3d games.
Oh well, at least it runs when I use single-chip only, I hope that I will get the P. next week!!!!!!

So... do you recommend this game?
Actually I'm interested in it, but never played any of the earlier ones. Would that make much of a difference (learning curve wise)?

No, not really. There is a decent tutorial in the game, which will help you to handle all the basic controls, of course it can't show you any advanced tactics! Also if you played other RTS games (especially StarCraft), you will learn how to play within a few minutes.

That's nice to hear, I'm gonna pick up a copy tomorrow when it's released here in Sweden.
I was thinking about picking up NWN too but I don't know how well it plays on a G400 MAX...anyone who knows?
                I'll buy a new card Soon™, very Soon™!

Got a question about the game I am playing it right now, but I am wondering when the heros level up arent the spells they care supposed to level up to?

you have to level up the spells yourself (click on the red cross).

like i already said in another thread WC3 play suprisingly good on my G400 (lightly o/c to 140/175), either at 1024x786x16 or 800x600x32. however i noticed some stuttering during huge battles with many units so i switched to 800x600x16 (which still looks good) for better interface responsiveness (sp?).

NWN and G400 ... mmh don't even try it out or you will hate the game forever it looks very ugly with all the low detail everything and is still quite slow. and there is the infamous texture corruption bug (like in b&w, if anyone remembers).

Thop, I've got NWN, and while I agree that it ain't pretty due to having to kill all detail, and runs like a dog... I've not seen this texture corruption bug you're talking about. There's the enviromental reflections bug, but that's fixed with the newest ICD.

hmm do you know/saw the black&white texture bug? on the cow f.e. the textures where all screwed up. the head texture was on the back, the feet texture somewhere else etc. all mixed up. i get the same with NWN, on all characters the textures are screwed up.
i know with b&w it could be fixed when you disabled AGP Memory or reduced it to the lowest setting. didn't try if it works here.

Wierd, never had that bug with B&W either. I've used NWN with Win98 and WinXP and it worked ok with both.

Of-course games are only as good as YOU think they are. Some people don't like the strategy type games and prefer the 1st person shooter types. I personally like WarCraft and have played them all to completion (all the Warcraft and Starcraft series).

As far as being behind because you haven't played, you start at the entry level and then build from there. That is what makes the game so addictive. You keep getting new abilities and troops to use so you can't stop playing!

Personally I love the game. I have been stuck on a level and had it hit me what I should do while I am at work the next day. Later that night I try my new strategy and sometimes it works and sometimes it doesn't.

Edit: You will be sad to know that there is no Shock Rifle in WarCraft.
