  • America's Army on G400 ?

So the America's Army: Ops "demo" is out, but apparently it has been sponsored by nvidia, not only because of the giant nvidia logo it displays when starting, but Matrox and 3dfx users have been locked out as well. I get a "HW not supported" error when trying to run the game, and I've read a lot of complaints from Voodoo 5 users about the same thing.

Is anyone here running this game successfully on a G400/450 ?

FWIW- It was developed with GF2 class GPUs as a baseline target (feature set, I'd bet). Basically, I'd guess you'd need at least fixed TnL support to use it (Radeon, etc. and up). GF1 can probably run it too, but I'd have to hear from someone else with that chipset to know for certain. At any rate, TNT1/2, G400, etc., probably won't work.
      "..so much for subtlety.."

Runs on my G550 set up here (Duron@933Mhz, 256Mb Epox 8K7A+) in Win2k. Bloody slowly though! Even 640x480 doesn't really help - well, 640x480 can't even be selected.

Runs like a beaut on my Parhelia system (1900+XP, 512MB, A7V333) also in Win2k.

Using same PC as I tried the G550 on (duron) a GF2MX200 wasn't much better. However I was able to overclock the GF2MX to 200/200 (from 175/166) and it ran a bit better - still not really playable (at a guess it was ~10-15 fps). The G550 was ~5-10fps.

Well, looks like it's the end of the road for my G400 then. Personally, I find the Parhelia to be way too expensive, so my next card will probably be a Geforce 4.
