Fraps only works with D3D games
No, it does work in OpenGL games. The res that HL started up in was partly off the screen so I couldn't see it to begin with.

Rags if you are talking to me I'm running in OpenGL mode. 1280x960.

Also look for a setting in your cfg files for fps_max. Change it from the default of 72 to say 200. But even then I think the game is fps limited at 100.

I was talking to the thread starter, that way we can figure out where his issues lay.

Well, I just checked mine out. According to both fraps, and the in-game counters I'm getting no less than 40fps, usually in the 70s-80s, peaks at 99. This is at 1024x768 with 16xFAA turned on, with only a P3-700 and Parhelia.
I'd guess it's a config issue with the game.

Ok. using 'cl_showfps 1', I see that my FPS range from a low of 30fps to 99fps. And this is with 16x FAA and AF turned on. When playing as a soldier, if I shoot 2 rockets, my fps drops to 30fps. Overall, seems ok now. Thanks guys.

kruzin : thats proberly the limit of your P3-700 , you really should tryin to overclock it
jchung : are you using D3d or opengl ?

if Opengl, then I think the driver isn't optimized yet, did you try the 228 drivers ?
Hey! You're talking to me all wrong! It's the wrong tone! Do it again...and I'll stab you in the face with a soldering iron

I'm using OpenGL. I agree that the driver isn't optimized yet. I'm using the 228 drivers. Installed them yesterday.

If you are talking about the 99 fps peaks then no this is a limitation of the game not his system. Even on my system at 1280x960 with everything turned on and maxed I only get 99 fps max. Granted it stays at 99 fps most of the time , it is still a limitation in the game. Even going down to 800x600 it is still maxed at 99.

Yes, everyone I have talked to using the latest patch never sees more than 99fps.
And regardless of the condition of P's OGL, it is still the best choice for this game. The game's D3D support is iffy at best, as the game engine was build for OGL, and the D3D in it is just a D3D-OGL wrapper.
