  • Morrowind / NWN on G400

Did anyone try those on a decent computer with G400 ?

  • #2
    System: Duron 800 384 MB ram G400

    Game: Morrowind
In the cities I have a FPS between 5 and 5
In the houses between 20 and 40
In the outdoors between 8 and 13
In the "dungeon" between 10 and 30

The game like to have a lot of ram (to tell it better, this is one of the few games that use all the ram it founds)

I know that there is a huge performance improvement by using the NOCD crack (about 10/15 FPS more), but still have to test it

I know that with the patch you gain other 4-5 FPS, but the European patch still has some problems and after applying it the game stop work, so I have not tested it

About NWN, I still have to install it. However I've heard that with a Gefo3 and an AMD 1600 it's nearly unplayable.

      WTF !?

Anyway, I'm going to get an Athlon XP 1800 with 1GB of ram. What do you think my frame rate in Morrowind be ?

With a G400 Vanilla not OC?
Not so far from mine I think you can add 4-5 fps.
However, it seems that the FPS issue for Morrowind is caused by a huge fault in the rendering engine.

Ah, an advice: don't start playing Morrowind unless you have a Parhelia or a similar videocard coming into your PC.
        Otherwise, your life will became:

        1 Start playing Morrowind

2 Say: "Shit, it's nearly unplayable!! I most stop playing this and start playing some other game until I get a decent vcard"

3 Continue playing thinking "Well, I play a little bit more before disinstalling the game"

4 Stop playing after a few hours from [2]

5 Start doing something other (go walk, go for a cammello ride, shooting Palestinian, whatever you like )

        6 Goto [1]

We don't ride camels here, only the south of Israel is desert and we like 4x4 better than animals anyway.
I could go riding my mountain bikes on the beach though, I've been neglecting them lately.

I think I'll take my risks with Morrowind once I get my new computer. I've been waiting too long for this game to come out.

            LOL
Was jk'ing, I know a bit of Israeli geography. I've worked for near a year with a disertor from your nation, and he has described me a lot of your places and uses

I'm waiting for Morrowind since the time Daggerfall came out!!

And the waiting has been worth, believe me

Well, I tried the NWN with plain G400 (Celeron566@850, 512MB RAM) and with minimum detail and 800x600 resolution it was slow but playable if you don't mind FPS between 10-20

I'm used to slow, but I put NWN away for a while until I get my hands on some faster video card...

Yeah I'm getting 12-20 fps in NWN on a Duron 900, 256 mb SDRAM, G400 MAX(!), Hercules MuseXL,win98. Graphics settings : 800x600 and everything turned off/low. Changing the sound to "Miles Fast 2d" does smooth things up quite a bit, as does turning dualhead off.
I normally run with dualhead on and just disable the secondary desktop when running OpenGL stuff, but NWN is a bit faster when it's totally disabled. Morrowind runs at a similar clip.
Both awesome games tho. All Hail the return of the RPG!

                  I've tried NWN yesterday evening.
On a Duron 800@800, 380 MB PC133 and a plain G400 it work really well with minimum graphic quality. Don't know how many FPS, I've simply launched the game, played and noticed no problems of stuttering or the like.

With maximum graphic quality, on the other hand, it's really slow.
Well, to be honest, not so slow as Morrowind...

And, however, playing NWN night I've noticed an interesting thing in videogames reviews: they are all shit!

I ordered an Athlon XP 1800+ with 1Gb DDR 333Mhz ram, I hope it could squeeze a few more fps from my good old G400.

If you wanna squeeze a few more frames out of the ol' g400, play with the interface hidden. Default key is "h". Definitely makes fights smoother.

I was wondering if anyone else had encountered this problem with Neverwinter Nights before:

I finally installed NWN and created my first character, after about 1 second of it displaying the game with my character in it, the screen goes black with only the interfact still being shown. I can still click around the map but can see nothing.

I have the latest patach installed 1.20 and also the latest Matrox drivers "w2k584"

Can anyone help me with this? I really want to play the game!

                        Thanks

hello, how do you display your fps in NWN and Morrowind?
currently running NWN on a TNT2 Ultra 32MB, as old or older than g400. I get a smooth play @1024x768 and low settings but i think matrox cards are slower as they may not have been in the mind of the game programmers when they made the games.

Not sure about the crashing Top_Cat, but make sure you have Dualhead disabled. Seems to help. Make sure "Use 32 bit Z-buffering" is enabled in Windows Display Settings -> Advanced -> Options. Also try disabling "Environment Mapping on Creatures" in the NWN Graphics Options. Good Luck.

Belwarrior, the easiest way to display your fps in game is to download and run FRAPS from www.fraps.com
Just start it running before you run the game, you can set where you want it displayed/continuous or per second updates etc.
Unfortunately this can be a double-edged sword ; sometimes I'd rather not know
