  • Some minor Opengl problems (brightness, refresh rate)

Well, I got my Parhelia in today and besides the fact i need to wipe my chin every 3 minutes, there are a few things i can't get fixed in OpenGL. Q3 engine based games start at a very low brightness, even when gamma (r_gamma) is set to 1.25 to compensate for this. Touching the gamma slider fixes this problem, but it's a hassle to do every time before i play.

numer 2 is the fact that Half-Life defaults to 60Hz at any resolution, while Q3 engine based games default to the 85Hz specified in Powerdesk (without using the r_refreshrate command).

Hope you can help me out, thnx!

I haven't seen the problem with Q3, but experienced the same thing with Half life.
I went through every resolution in display settings, 16 and 32 bit, and in powerdesk hf monitor and tv adjustments flicked every one up to 86hz then back to 85hz.
This seems to save them as customized resolutions in the registry, and now everything opens at 85hz.
    Hope this helps.

I tried that, and also tried uninstalling all monitors (there were 3 monitor profiles for win2k), this didn't help either.

It's a Matrox thing, they default their gamma setting to 1, but many games expect something a bit higher.

You could try dxdiag and set override refresh rate.

Also try checking hide resolutions this monitor can't display in display properties - monitor tab. Need to be under administrator loggon.

That doesn't work for OpenGL applications and can be very dangerous to your monitor!

Use the Colorreal app that came with P to setup different gamma settings for app/games.

When setting up the refresh rates it is most neccessary to actually change the refresh regardless of what it claims the setting is and then save it.

i did greebe, but half-life ignores it apparently. all othre games (OpenGL and DirectX based) use 85Hz.

So i need to switch coloreal profile every time i go play a game?
