  • UT2003 on Parhelia...

I was fortunate to get both Parhelia and UT2k3 to begin with.

Installed both, and here goes UT2k3!!!
Hmmm... It's jerky... even with single monitor setup.
    Very disappointed...

Then, I found something on UT2k3 setting. "MINIMUM FPS"
It was set to 30. What the heck! I changed it to the maximum which is 60.

    Now it runs much better!!!

I suggest everyone who got UT2k3 to do the same. You'll see the improvements immediately!!!

Doesn't the "Minimum FPS" setting in Unreal/UT scale down the details to keep the FPS up?

lol, indeed it's not really 'out' yet!.

U are quite correct! Bsically the engine has determined that the user wants more speed and so has dropped the detail, lighting/shadows (i.e. anything and everthing it can) to attempt to acheive the specified FPS rate (which it probably will not be able to do anyway?!)

I agree. You are playing with beta software. UT2K3 still has many things that need to be worked out before it is officially released.

Yes. It is not out yet. I am playing with beta UT2k3.

Still, there were a lot of comments relating Parhelia's performance with UT2k3. So, I tried.

It is amazing, although it is not finalized. I understand that some of the MURCers got UT2k3 beta, and I saw screenshots that they have made. I would definitely get this when it's out.

I didn't know that setting the minimum FPS too high will decrease the level of detail. I didn't notice that when I played the game.

Anyways, thanks for the reply, and hopefully we can all play this game soon...

As time goes on I can assure you that drivers will be further optimized for Open GL performance. That being said, with Matrox releasing drivers on a consistant basis they are doing better than Nvidia and ATI. Whenever there is a problem Matrox immediately releases a fix, however with Nvidia there driver releases usually span several months.

Why is it called tourist season, if we can't shoot at them?

I have played the beta and I can tell you that this is the first game that I will rush out and buy the very DAY that it is released.

I'm not going to go camp out for it or anything, but I am definately watching the shelves at my local stores.

BTW, if you have the, er, eval version (yeah, that's it!), collect enough adrenaline capsules to get 100 in your indicator, then tap forward 4 times. You'll see 'berserker' appear at the top of the hud. It seems to work a lot like the damage amp.

Hmm... I tried the other movement keys and different combinations, but only got the "Berzerk" to work for me.
