  • Quick Q3A question

How do you sweep the railgun in Q3A? I tried sweeping while firing but I only get a pulse.

Also ... are there any sites that cater to teaching newbies the specific moves that are popular on each specific map? I've tried spectating when I'm allowed but a demo or map guide would help to learn these moves.

P.S. While I'm at it ... what is the role of an engineer in Q3A CTF maps? I heard someone call out for one today.

I'm guessing that the railgun you refer to is a weapon modification.

Q3A doesn't have player classes afaik, although I haven't kept up to date recently - might've been added in a patch. More likely to be another mod though. Or a TFC player having fun with newbies

Try the alt.games.quake2 newsgroup, they have a site (agqx.org?) which has FAQs. Might be helpful. The PlanetQuake.com site probably has some good stuff in it too.

I'm running v1.31. The rail sweep was on a normal Space CTF map (Q3CTF4) so I don't think there were any mods. This is the map that I'm especially keen on learning the various acceleration pad jumps and rocket jump combos. I haven't seen any specific move descriptions on any of the popular game sites (including PlanetQuake) but if somebody knows of any please direct me to them. I haven't looked in the NGs yet and I'll give that a go.

AFA engineers, what is their role in TFC (I haven't played any of the Unreal games)? I suspected the call might have been a sarcastic comment but I'd like to know what it referred to.

I used TFC to refer Team Fortress Classic for Half Life, but there's various class based mods around.

In TFC, the engineer can construct a sentry weapon (i.e. a little automagical bullet style protection for the base), in RTCW he (or indeed the fe-male engineers ) can plant dynamite to blast through a....blast point.

I like class based games, but any LAN games I've been to or organised don't seem to attract 2 tactical well balanced teams. Q2 CTF remains the best game we've played (IMO) with regards to people actually noticing there's attack and defense in a game
