I'm not sure you're going to have much luck getting the 927 build of UT2003 to work with the G400. This game requires a good deal of "horse power" to run. What CPU do you have?

I know the game runs ok in Windows XP -- that's what I am using, but I have the game in my GeForce3/AMD XP 1700 system where it runs OK at 800 x 600. I haven't even tried getting it to run on my G400/PIII 850 system. Maybe I will give it a go... just to see.

I would expect the final retail version of the game should be able to run on a G400Max, though at pretty low resolution (640 x 480) and low graphics detail, with probably something close to a 1Ghz+ processor.
My rig: P4 3.0GHz; Asus P4C800E; 1GB DDR 3200; AIW Radeon 9800 Pro; WD 120GB SATA; Plextor DVD burner; Liteon DVD reader; Audigy 2ZS; Logitech Z560 4.1; NEC FE991SB

Kid's rig: AMD XP 1600+; 512MB ram; GF4 Ti4600; Maxtor 60GB; Plextor CD burner; Sony DVD reader; SB Live; Cambridge 4.1 speakers; NEC FE991SB

    Other kid's rig: Athlon 2700+; ASUS A7N8X mobo; 512MB PC3200 ram; GF4 Ti4600; Maxtor 80GB; SB Live; Cambridge 2.1; NEC FE991SB; Liteon DVD-ROM

I expect the main reason the leaked build will not run on a G400 is that it's missing the required T&L engine. The log will show that D3D attempts to emulate it in software but who knows whether that really works or not!

However, looking at AnandTech's latest benchmarking data - EVEN with T&L, the G400 would most likely still give single figure FPS values - as the GF2/MX which is a good deal faster than the G400 - and has T&L - is itself way down on horsepower.

At that point in development Epic/DE would not have even run it against such a config. Until very recently all cards without T&L were unsupported. Epic is (as many developers) in bed with nVidia so what can you really expect? Their dev platfom is GF3/GF4 as answered somewhere in a Q&A session.

Beyond the stunning graphics there's not a great deal that got me excited. Certainly not enough for me to spend £300 on a new video card just yet!

Maybe if a Matrox programmer gets bored one evening he'll patch it up. It does load and run, but has some red artefacts and then locks up hard.

My Cpu is a good AthlonXp 1900Mhz...
I have yet setting resolution a 640x480 and i have disabled triple buffer but the same problem... FREZZEE or not end the loading. In this situation the only way is push switch RESET...

            Please help
Excuse me for being blunt.. but which part of IT DOESN'T WORK do you not follow?!? Beezer has it running on a GF3 which a) Epic's as-is/was preferred development card b) has the required T&L capability.

Epic haven't released the demo yet, it's a leaked release which isn't even pre-release standard. Like it or lump it - you'll NEVER get it to run on your G400! I've tried everything and then some but with no solution. Unlike all my m8's who run nVidia cards - install and run every time - DOH!

Having said all that, whilst it's a shame that it will not work BUT WHY run UT2K3 at low res and detail when I can run UT at high res/detail and get almost the same game.... hmmm, I think I may need to chew on that thought for a while longer :P
            Cheers, Reckless

I remember Cliffy B. commenting that he expected the final version to be able to run on a TNT2 card at about 20 fps -- with all the minimum graphic and resolution settings.
If a TNT2 can run it, the G400Max should be able to run it as well, but we'll have to wait as see....

I've been playing it on a Radeon 8500. Between that and a GF2 GTS I wouldn't want anyone to have to suffer with anything less. A G400 will not run it, and I'd rather have them fix something else than get it running on a card which has no hope of running it remotely well.

Sorry guys, if you wanna play UT2K3, retire the G400. I don't know if UT2K3 is worth that yet though. I'm not sure I really like this beta that much.........

When CliffyB mentioned the game running on a TNT2 at the lowest possible settings, I think I also recalled seeing something like 320x240 listed as the resolution! However, he wasn't talking about v927 (the leak that most people have), he meant whatever the version was that they were working on in-house (this was a bit after 927 was leaked, and was including some of the optimizations that they were working on), so the leaked demo has about a snowball's chance in .... of working with either card.

Regardless, if the final game / demo will run on a TNT2, then it should run on a G400Max (assuming he actually meant the original TNT2 and not the TNT2Ultra, the G400Max should actually get better framerates, though 25-30 fps at 320x240 still sounds like arse to me.. )
                              "..so much for subtlety.."

                              System specs:
                              Gainward Ti4600
                              AMD Athlon XP2100+ (o.c. to 1845MHz)
