  • Two Problems with Parhelia

I'm having two problems with my Parhelia.

First I can't play Madden 2002 (demo) at any resolution at any frame rate above 8fps (according to Fraps). The second is that I can't run JKII with 16X FAA when I have Fraps on, it crashes when a level is loaded up (especially the demo). The driver I used is 1.0.4.231 (latest).

Otherwise, I've been very happy with this card and it performs great without any other problems.

-Holy, crickey. Hello fellow Winnipeger .

Those games, were they installed after the Parhelia was installed? Are they (JKII I guess) updated? In JKII are you running it in Direct X or Open GL? The Madden demo, im not to sure as to what the problem is. But maybe try reinstalling it . Ill have to try it. -

          Sinistral,

Nice to see another Winnipeger too. Anyway to answer your questions, no I didn't install after installing the card, but it works at any other setting, ie no FAA, or no Fraps, or no JKII. JKII is updated to the latest patch I believe, and is based on the Quake 3 engine (OpenGL only). I did try reinstalling Madden 2002 but it made no difference.

I don't know about the Madden issue, but JK2 has an in-game frame counter you can activate instead of using fraps.
Find this line in your gamedata\base\jk2config.cfg (and/or jk2mpconfig):
            seta cg_drawFPS "0"
            Change the "0" to "1"
you should also be able to do this from the in-game console.

Does Madden2000 seem like its running at 8fps?

As to your JK2 problem...why run fraps? If the game runs, run it

                Pace,

According to Fraps Madden 2002 is running at 8fps and yes it is very slow, my Kyro II was faster than it .

                Kruzin,

I'm not really worried about in game frame rates, the reason I am using Fraps is that I want a second by second record of the frame rate for the Parhelia review I'm working on. I wish to create a graph of the frame rate (as suggested previously in the benchmark forum).

I did reinstall JKII but it did nothing to improve the situation.

Just for giggles, I tried to run Fraps with JK2.
                  I'm in surround mode, winXP.
With FAA at application's request, it worked as expected.
With FAA forced on, the game loaded and ran, Fraps did not display on the screen, but it did record the log.
Note that I am using unreleased beta drivers, so if this is a driver issue, it is at least partially handled...

Oooh. Just what I like to see Where is your review going to go? And what cards are you pitting it against?

Of course, I have already bought the card, but as with cars, many reviews are read post-purchase to make you smug (or think d'oh!)

                      isn't FRAPS a pure DX utility ?

how could it measure OGL fps ?

I can see my FPS in Neverwinter Nights using FRAPS and thats an OpenGL game

As long as the moderators don't mind its: www.viperlair.com. Unfortunately I only have a Ti4200 (64MB), Kyro II and my G400 to pit it against (anyone want to send me a Radeon 8500 ) and my processor is rather weak (see sig).

The review should be up in a couple of weeks, and I'm planning on having the news of the review sent to Ant on the front page of MURC.
