  • Experience with Sourround Gaming

    Hi,
As I just started playing arround with sourrounding Gaming I would really be interested in the opinion of others who tested it.
Don't take money as a constrain. Just tell how you felt playing in sourround gaming. ie. UT..

Like it says; a whole other dimension to gaming (and video editing!).

I just tried to look a movie spreaded over two monitors, but that doesn't rock :-(
Even 18mm brezels are too thick for doing that.
But when you play, you really don't see them. I wouldn't imaging how much the peripheral view can influence the 3D experience.

I only had a few hours to test out surround gaming. I wasn't able to get UT to work. Actually I just couldn't get the OpenGL patch to work. The only games I had to test with was IG3 demo and Racer . So I am not able to make a proper decision.

It will be another 2 weeks before I can get a third 19" monitor.
I should have bought an ATI.

I have Quake3, Elite Force, Battlefield 1942, and a few others working in surround now.

The only game im still playing a lot thats not surround capable is Allegiance and my heart sinks at the thought of those 2 side monitors standing there darkened.

I could go on for hours how cool I think surround is. I bought Parhelia mainly cause i do music production and its great to have 3 screens for editing and gaming was a low priority.

From a lot of the stuff I read i didnt think Parhelia would be so good at games and I thought surround would have slower framerates but it turns out to be damn cool and I'll be paying attention to what games support it when buying.

The only time I have had occasion to try surround gaming was with two girl at the same time. Does it count?

For me Surround Gaming was kinda an afterthought, but after coming back into possiesion of my old 19in monitor that I lent my GF for use at her apartment (we moved in together at a new apartment this past weekend) and me scoring another Optiquest 19in montior on Ebay for fairly cheap I was set.

I've been playing the demo for BF1942 alot this past week (nothing else to do while waiting for furnture to show up at my new place ) and this game totally kicks ass with Surround gaming. I get so much better Situtation Awareness with Surround gaming. I usally like taking out the Sherman or Chi-ha tanks they have and causing all sorts of havoc. I laugh when I see the enemy Inf come and try hit my flanks, because I can see them with extra monitor real estate, and then backup and turn the turret at the same time to engauge them. I messed around with RTCW with surround gaming and that works pretty good too.

Worst part about surround gaming is that you could get a slight case veritgo, due to the extra monitors filling in your perfrifial vision
Why is it called tourist season, if we can't shoot at them?

I had the feeling of becoming sick, when I played long UT-Sessions. I think this comes from the periphal-view that isn't used to see there something and gets confused. It felt a bit like when tuning around yourself quickly. I can't explain it any better. But my sum stays the same. Great STUFF. The poll speaks the same.
