  • parhelia happiness thread

this is a thread for all those who are verty happy with there parhelia, i have had one for 10 days now and all i can say is that i am nothing but astounded with it, it is a bulk version yet can take watever i care to throw at it at the moment i turn 16x faa on all of he time run with aniso and max out details and it runs smoothy, i have never put a frame counter on as i dont care for that whats the pint as it runs smooth. if you want 15000 3dmarks buy a radeon9700 i value the triple head real estate i value the support and i value the fact that i have enough 3d power to crush any task which i need it for, i really stuggle to see how anybody could want more power in games providing they do not have hardware issues this card really is the best not perfect but the est out there for my needs.(ps please fix aniso matrox dont need any more performance would just like aniso and more surround patches too)
is a flower best picked in it's prime or greater withered away by time?
Talk about a dream, try to make it real.

          Yup.
Been lovin mine since day 1.
Even FPS counters llike, if they don't what it is, and there is no fraps or fps guage on the games.
People who are hardcore counters have said the vard is smoother than other, "faster" cards. Plus it looks great.

          And surround gaming kicks tail!

Buy a new desk, I did.

            Dues EX @ 3072x768 (OpenGL)
UT @ 3072x768 (with the new OpenGL renderer & S3TC on)
            Rune @ 3072x768 (OpenGL)***
            Duke Nukem MP @ 3072x768
            ST Voyager EF @ 3072x768
            RTCW @ 3072x768

all run as slick as snot, also very briefly tried:-

            Q3, AvP2, Anarchy Online, NWN, IG3 Demo(
i didnt last long), I also have SW JK2 but a friend is playing it at the mo so I have not tried that yet.

*** I could not get the gamma correct when running Rune in OGL, it was way to dark, so I had to go back to single screen D3D, but in ran very smooth.

I too am loving my Parhelia. No incompatabilities, everything runs really smoothly, and I have recently been inspired to buy a new monitor or two - I hadn't realised how cheap a decent 17" CRT has gotten recently! A couple of Iiyama VMPro 413 screens should sit nicely around the 19" I have already. Of course, a new desk will have to come too, and moving house again will be a pain, but all worth it. I am too used to lots of screens at work - I want them at home too now, and suddenly it really is possible!

And excellent news on all the surround gaming titles coming out - this feature is really catching on! (I just want to see if Total Annihilation can work across all 3 screens...)

                Count me in

Well, anyone who has read my threads knows that I will be included in this poll! So many P knockers don't even own one, and probably haven't even seen one runnning! Tom (of tom's hardware) didn't even incude the card in his later benchmarks, claiming the card was too slow. I wish more people would turn those damned FPS counters OFF, and just experience the game play. Graphics Cards pretty much passed applications about 2 years ago, since then, the gap between what is possible, and what is actually implemented has gotten larger and larger. Even DOOM III is being spec'ed for a geforce, that's right, a 3 year old card! UT2003, the latest, most demanding game runs fine, so what am I buying a faster card for? Bragging rights? The Parhelia is the Mercedes Benz of consumer graphics cards. Sure not as fast a Lambourghini, but with better all round engineering and build quality, and more features. I wish to drive at 300 KM, about as much as I want 300 FPS in Quake III.

I better stop wrtiting now, or I'll burst a blood vessel
                Life is a ride

                      Oh yeah... another thought:

How many of you have a printer on your desk. It's probably been there, next to the monitor, for a good few years. Now think how often you actually use the thing these days. I tend not too much anymore. Now that printer takes up the same space as a monitor, approximately. And how often would you use an extra monitor? Every day?

So there really are no excuses for not getting that extra 17" CRT. They're cheap, and if you are a little creative, you already have the space!

Just trying to be of service (ex-) salessoup!

And Yxalitis, I was thinking of similar analogies, with a Bentley/RR in mind for the P, and the GF4Ti as a Skyline, and the 9700 as a Ferrari. Horses for courses, and I happen to like this particular course (it's a point-to-point one )

I agree entirely, I turned my FPS counters off a LONG time ago, I couldnt even begin to tell you what I get in games, it seems some people in this business dont know what the word 'PLAYABLE' means.

Plus, surroung gaming is one of those technologies that people have to see with thier own eyes to fully appreciate the beauty of it, a bit like when 3DFX came out with the first FSAA, we all knew what it did but until we saw it, we didnt realise how good it was, now every card has FSAA.
