  • anyone here playing UT 2003 with G400??

Well I just tried it and it is possible hasn't crashed or anything yet. Framerates were around 15-25fps, pretty well all options turned down of course. Graphics look much worse than UT like this. Funny thing is the default resolution it chose to load me up in was 320X200...LOL

Time for an $80 Geforce 2

As you quite rightly said "the graphics are worse than UT's" and as (IMO) the gameplay is fairly dull it isn't worth it.

Well, in context it's probably nearly as good as UT - but without being graphically pretty (cause the G400 isn't capable - there's little point in playing it? For those who have the hardware then why not I suppose but I don't find it's a "I must buy a new video card" game. Lots of people think it's great tho so it'll be a big MP game no doubt.

A GF4/4200 is the only card really worth getting (budget + performance). A GF2 is a tad underspecced for UT2 (going by a couple of friends benchmarks...)

I'm using a XP2000+, G400MAX and 512MB PC2700 RAM. Running the demo at 800x600x32 with every option as high as I can turn it. Runs ok. If the final game adds more complex maps I might cut down to 640x480x16 of course Or finally get a Parhelia...

I've been getting 30 in bombing run. Off to play CTF.

          P.

Edit: CTF - I managed to get it down to 12fps when jumping down the foggy shaft to the flag General play keeps it at 20 and above.

          Resolution: 800x600x32.
Detail: Textures - Normal; World - Highest; Character - Normal; Physics - High.
Other: Character shadows and decals off; dynamic lighting, detail textures, projectors and coronas on.

How well does UT2003 perform with a Voodoo5500 pci?

probably not very little better than a g400, they only get about 300 more 3dmarks than a g400. and thats the agp version.

                *update*

Well something interesting has happened. Just for fun I decided to turn up the settings and see what would happen. Fully expecting 3fps or less, I found that the performance has hardly dropped at all! This is at 800X600 32-bit color with options set to normal or high! It is now looking just as good as UT...it did lock up at 15mins but I'm hoping it was just a one time thing

edit: locking up is CPU, first time in I've encountered instability in two years raised voltage a little, hope it helps

Yeah, a very CPU intensive app...could run benchmarks all day at 1.95ghz@2.05v, but locked up very quickly under UT2k3....it took 1.92ghz@2.10v to make it stable. I tend to run it at 1.90ghz@2.00v to keep the noise down (Rheobus)....
