  • UT2003 and Parhelia

    Hey guys,
does anyone have any problems playing the UT2003 demo with their parhelia? my computer keeps crashing and i cant figure out why. I think it started when i enabled 16x-FAA. I just disabled it, and i am about to go try it out again, and i hope that fixes it.

btw, this game looks sweet with my P

Let us know if the crashing goes away...

...if it continues try other apps....if only crashing in UT2k3...then CPU overheat issue....
Let us return to the moon, to stay!!!

Hi there! Does it crash when you exit the game, or does it crash during gameplay?

It crashes during game play, but usually when i exit the game all the text on my screen is garbled up and the only way to fix it is with a reboot I havent tried it since i posted yesterday, i have been busy with other things on my computer and i didnt want to risk crashing it :P

Well, another user here (magog) and me also have those crashing isues after exiting the game, but I highly doubt that this is an overheating issue, I mean I really can play two hours without problem, on the other hand I can just start the game, exit it, and everything crashes
Only strange thing that sometime it happens, and sometime it doesn't.... but when it happens, then only when I have 16xFAA enabled.

Runs great!! I got my copy at EBGames earlier today and havent stopped playing it since (Surround Gaming Absolutely rocks by the way), almost done with single player mode already though lol Just anxious now for Matrox to correct the driver issues that remain, but Im sure they will

DPGX, in surround gaming, what resolution, level of detail etc are you using? and what frame rates are you generally getting? just curious

Surround gaming in UT2k3 must rock!!!

                  It totally rocks.

I got it this past weekend, and was a little afraid that the performance would be a little worse than the demo, given the size of the retail textures.

I played the thing in Surround Gaming on about 5 different maps, and it was awesome.

                    Has anybody with a P + retail UT2003 tried a map called "Lostfaith" ? It's a CTF map...

That was the only one that appeared to have slight performance issues with the P. It was fine the majority of the time, but had a few hiccups every now and then...

This was played @ 10x7 without any FAA...

ElDonAntonio, I've been playing at 2400x600 with all details maxed {no FAA, 3DSound is also enabled, and I tried putting OpenAL32 from Windows\system32 into the game directory and over-writing the default DefOpenAL32.dll file}. The frame-rates usually depend on the map, the lowest ive seen was averaging roughly 35- 40, highest average I believe was around Avg 60+ on one of the maps. It runs really smooth with the exception of the one map Typedef Enum mentioned. I imagine theres probably a ways to go in regards to optimization of the D3D code, remember UT took quite a while to get down, although I dont expect it as the game already runs great.

                        typedef enum,

On the LostFaith map I am getting an almost slow motion / stuttering effect on that level. I have noticed it does not really matter how many people / bots are playing. If it helps at all the same map is a bit jerky on my 9700 also.

Select Software Acceleration just before quitting the game.

It helped in my case, I have a SB Audigy.

I get the same problem sometimes when i have 16xFAA enabled. Every once in a while now i get a game crash too, even without FAA enabled. I think it may have something to do with SMP? that is the only thing i can think of. does anyone else with two processors have a problem? Next time it happens i will c/p the details of the crash. Note, it is a crash of the game, not a BSOD like i was getting before, with the Demo and 16xFAA enabled.
