UT2003 and Matrox 450 ?

HI All
I've got a big problem with ut2003 (demo).
I've got an athlon 1.4, 1 gb ddr ram and a 30 gb hdd, matrox 450. I can't get anything to run, just get the silly message 'please install directx 8.1b, and 'gendevicecapture - no video' errors. Anyone else had this one and got any solutions ?

Tried a removal of the drivers, reinstall directx and then reinstall the drivers?

I've run it here on a compaq deskpro P3-450 with a G450 and although it ran, it was an experience I'd rather forget

Wasn't there a patch for the demo which fixes that bug?

You need to install the patch as well as DX8.1B...

The patch only works for the 400, not the 450. I think my pc is generally uncompatible - just have to get myself a geforce 4
When I removed the matrox drivers I got some horrible message about windows system files missing - I'll just have to wait for Unreal 2 instead...
I currently have 40 programs loaded including :
xml spy, sql server, interdev, office, xml spy, crystal reports, pc duo, mobile information server and photoshop. I really dont fancy re-installing that little lot....

I have a Athlon 1200 @ 1330, on a POS Abit KT7A (soon to be ECS K7S5A), with a g450 - Rt2500 - Santa Cruz - FT TX2 - NIC in Win2k-SP2, and I have absolutely no problems with either the UT2k3 demo + patch or the retail version.

Just as K6-III said, you need to download and install DX8.1b from microsoft to make your system compatible.

Sorry to dissapoint you, but I've already tried that and re-installing matrox drivers, but i still get the message about 'you need to install directx 8.1b or later.

Why don't you install DirectX 8.1b?

Installing the latest matrox driver doesn't upgrade your DirectX7.0 to DirectX8.1b.

read the previous note. I've already installed directx 8.1b, but I still get the error message. This is the problem !

I am sorry, FunkeyMonkey. My vision is not that good thesedays.

I would try to run DXDIAG on your computer to see the DirectX device details. It will tell you what can be done with your G450, your soundcard. Also, it will tell you which version of DirectX is installed on your PC.

If you already did this, I have no solutions to your problem.

BTW, UT2k3 is very good. It is more fun than playing Q3A, in my opinion.
