    Yes, not only does that not fit my experiences, it also doesn't fit with reason. HL does not run inn Direct3D. It's just a wrapper that makes OpenGL calls.
    Gigabyte P35-DS3L with a Q6600, 2GB Kingston HyperX (after *3* bad pairs of Crucial Ballistix 1066), Galaxy 8800GT 512MB, SB X-Fi, some drives, and a Dell 2005fpw. Running WinXP.

      After I foreced AGPx1 lockups disappered.


      Counter-Strike and HL is 16bits color and changing desktop color will not help you at all.

      Valve has included some anti-cheat in latest releases and that puts a heavy load on your CPU, so upgrading your CPU will help you alot.
      Also, there is alot of tweaks out there for open-gl and CS. They might raise +10fps if done properly. Try them out.

      I have a Athlon XP +1800, G400MAX@1024*768 and plays with 40-50 fps (maxfps=50). OpenGL of course!

        same problem, I have test all u said also the tips from valve forum don't know what 2 do now!

        but I found a very cool tool that makes me have a constant fps number on all maps without the special lightning, I was very surprised:



        its very cool, don't know what it realy done, but I got now more fun at playing
