  • New reason for Dual-head gaming...well maybe an old one..

I just started playing Ultima Online again (Lord Blackthorn's Revenge) and having a Dual-head setup rocks! I can have the map from the web on one screen, or look up item stats, etc. And have the game playing on the other. I do have one problem with it though, whenever I open up the paperdoll for my character, it has some lines through it. Other than that it works great. I'd forgotten how fun the game was.

Nice, I'm trying to find reasons to justify having more than one monitor.

        Desktop space/productivity/ease of use!

I don't believ I could ever go back to less than a 21" monitor... and especially nothing less than two monitors

Whenever anyone comes into my office/computer room their jaw drop to the floor in awe. Then they find out that it's not just two systems, but multiple monitors on each!

(and that's not including the wifes system/desk in yet another corner of the room

Any other games that work in dual-head really well, besides the first person variety? I see the thread on Age of Mythology. I'm just curious about any other uses for this setup. Playing FPS games isn't exactly feasible for me with only two monitors, since you can't exactly see where you're shooting.

Does that specifically matter?! Simply by posting additional infomation doesn't mean anything less of that fact. Maybe you should read Typdef Enum's review of Parhelia on NVnews.com and get over this bash Greebe mode you are in Know I'm over it

The whole point is that I KNOW of other uses for the multi-monitor display, this forum was specifically for gaming usage of it, not professional/hobbyist usage for it. We all know it's great for the FPS games. So if you're going to post off topic, do it elsewhere.

To keep this thread more on topic, rather than exchanging banter, why don't we just try to make a non-FPS list of games that can take use of multi-monitor displays?

I did suggest reading the review which is linked on the MURC news page.

Additionally I haven't attacked you in this thread, and am becomming weary of them, so I sent you a PM and suggest heeding it.

                    Have a nice evening

Yes I saw the link, and you can read my own response. Unlike some, my life does not revolve around these forums. I on occasion post insights and mostly just post questions to the Alt. Lifestyles forum (or answers) I stay out of the soap box because I have better things to do than get into insult fights.

I apologize that I have not read that review, as I have not had the time to do so (I read the first part, and it has quite the few pages, typedef_enum did an excellent job, I commend him. Though looking through his list of games he reviewed using surround gaming, it doesn't look like he swayed too far from the FPS games. Flight Simulator 2002 (which technically IS first person, and you fly around can shoot at things) and Nascar 2002, which once again is first person, if you do the driver seat view.

What I would like to see for just a two monitor set-up is something like NWN, but with one main screen set up as the play area, and the other as the inventory/chest area. Or if you're using the toolset to make your own modules, to be able to have that open as well as a windowed version of the game to test it as you go.

                        FYI

Seeing that you decided to flame regardless via PM and then close it so no one could respond...

                        1. That wasn't a threat, it was a promise
                        2. You hate me, Fine, I don't hate you
                        3. What I was implying wasn't limited to 2D only.

                        Maybe you missed this...

The most experienced and knowledgeable helpers are often long-time Matrox users, who don't take kindly to gratuitous insults aimed at the company, or themselves. Don't forget, you are asking for help....
You never know who you might be talking to. Many of the forum regulars are IT professionals, professional computer developers, and experienced computer sales and support staff. People who solve these problems for a living rightfully expect to have their advice listened to and followed, not to be insulted or laughed at...it's always wise to check a member's profile before directing a response to them, especially if you disagree with their suggestion.
So you see this could have been avoided from the very beginning.

                        Have a nice day

Yeah, I closed PM, because I believe that these are OPEN forums. Private messages are overrated anyhow. And no, I don't hate you, and no I didn't flame you. I'm simply trying to keep this message on topic.

Matter dropped as far as I'm concerned, I would like to get on with my life, and with my topic. EQ in dual-head would be interesting to see, though I never cared for the game. I played Dark Age of Camelot for a while, and that was pretty fun. But this doesn't have to be a MMORPG thing only. What about Mame? how well does that comply with using it in a window.
