  • Half-Life stuck at 60Hz

I don't know why, but HL is stuck at 60Hz for me (OpenGL mode if it matters). I run the game at 1024x768, and I run the desktop at 1280x960. I have all resolutions set for 85Hz. I even tried setting the desktop to both 1024x76816 and 32 bit and doing the refresh rate set. It says 85Hz, but I've changed it, applied the settings, and changed it back to 85. Still nothing.

I love the game, but my eyes hate me. Help!

    Reinstalled drivers - no change.
Tried D3D, but "This Direct3D mode not supported by your video card."
Tried 1280x960, also plays at 60Hz.

Have you searched the Matrox tech support forum. I believe this is a known bug I've seen it mentioned before.

      Edit: found something http://forums.murc.ws/showthread.php...light=halflife

hm... well, in my case drivers default to 60Hz for all display modes.
In fact, when you go to Display Properties->Advanced->Monitor Settings->Adjust different display mode, it says 85Hz, but it's not, it's 60. so i have to manualy go to the mode i am using for half-life (800x600 16bit), and change it every time i reinstall drivers.

I looked in the Matrox forums, but didn't look well enough here in MURC it seems.

3dfx: I tried Refresh Lock and Refresh Force. No luck.
Arsa: 85Hz is the only thing shown.

As seen in the link above, i've had this problem too. I wasn't able to fix it... I didn't care about CS that much anymore anyway so i didn't report it as a bug if i remember correctly. This problem combined with the framerate drops in the halflife engine really makes playing half-life or CS unplayable, headaches because of the 60Hz is not funny

HalfLife has alway's been driver twitchy... Just wait for a fix from Matrox Tech dept.. alert them of your problem and I'm sure they will help. My Radeon9700Pro has no such problems nor did my 8500 Or MatroxG400Max.

have a look in your Halflife config file...there is a setting for max FPS.

                      try r_displayrefresh "100" in half-life
and enable "hide modes that this monitor cannot display"
install a real driver (.inf) of your monitor

and if that doesn't work , search for refreshlock
Hey! You're talking to me all wrong! It's the wrong tone! Do it again...and I'll stab you in the face with a soldering iron

i know 85 is the only thing shown, just select it and customize it to be something... i change it to 90hz because it's my favorite refresh rate
