Is there anyway to enable FSAA/FAA other then powerdesk?

I just got a parhelia and i got the infamous unexpected error if i try to run powerdesk.I Hope matrox will fix it ASAP.

So is there a registry key or some utility that can enable FSAA/AF on parhelia?

What kind of error do you get when you run PowerDesk-HF?

I had problems with PowerDesk, so i reinstalled Windows XP, installed Windows XP SP1, and then .NET Framework from Microsoft, and SP2 for .NET framework, and finaly the Parhelia driver, then everything worked!

Try to find the regkey HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Matrox\PowerDesk\Versio n8\CurrentSettings
(before doing something, export ALL these key)

In this key, you should find a REG_BINARY called AppHints.
this REG_BINARY contains a hashtable with all parameters for games and apps found by powerdesk.


then try this:
1. download this reg file : http://chr79.free.fr/apphints.reg
(this is the AppHints whitout specific apps or games profils)

2. go to offset 1B4 of the Reg_binary AppHints and you shou ld find '02'. you can try theses values:
01 for FAA 16 (app request)
02 for FAA 16
03 for FSAA 4X (app request)
04 for FSAA 4X
05 for no AA.

3. go to offser 19F and you should find '01'. you can try theses values:
01 for app choose
02 for Trilinear filtring
03 for Aniso

chr_79 u r the man thx but i couldnt find the binary file "apphints"

so i installed ur reg key.Then looked for 1B4 and 19F and couldnt find those offsets.

there were 01B0,01B8,0190,0198.

Can u plz modify ur reg file for forced 16x FSAA and AF?

to find 01B4, you have to look for the line 01B0.
On this line, the first byte is 01B0, the second is 01B1, the 3rd 01B2 ...

for example at 01B0 you have : 00 00 08 08 01 00 00 00
simply change 01 into 02,03,04 or 05 (be careful to replace 01, don't add something)

(i have updated the file apphints.reg from my previous link to have FAA16 and aniso forced)

Thx again man.FAA and AF is now working.

I have one last question: How to enable/disable gigacolor and vsync at apphints?

If i can find these,i wont need powerdesk(powercrap?) ever.

GigaColor : 1AE (on line 1A8, the 7th byte)
01 for off
02 for on


Vsync : 1A5 (on line 1A0, the 6th byte)
01 for app choose
02 for always
03 for never

You need to ensure that your desktop is set to Gigacolour as well to fix that

How can i set my Desktop to 10 bit Gigacolor? Don't know where i can find this option...
