  • Coming Soon™: A Good UT2k3 MURC Server

    Exciting News

Judging by the pings everyone got Friday evening, I'm going forward with my plan of renting a private server from Wicked Servers. I want to have a server that will support more players, than my cable connection can handle. I should have this thing up before next weekend.
I will post here later, when it's all good to go.

      WooHooo!
That would be great! We tried using the server from our \Xm\ clan last night as an alternative. Unfortunately, other members of the clan also have access to it, and ultimately hopped on during our playing, reconfigured it not realizing we were already playing on it and ended our night.
Your solution would be nice. Thanks!

Yeah, I was excited about getting home last night, only to find nobody playing anywhere.
Info will be coming Soon™. I've signed up for a 10 player private server.
I played for a bit on one of their public server last night, with 8 of 12 players and was getting a 96 ping.

Yeah, we tried to stay until you got there, but about 10:00pm (pst) we got booted off due to the official clan activity.

I hope we do this again, as soon as you get setup. Last night was fun, but a bit "chaotic" with all the server issues. We lost a lot of people early, probably due to frustration.

I don't have UT2003 but I suppose if there's a dedicated server available I could put up an alternate server when you guys have problems with SitFlyer's. How much bandwidth does UT2003 eat up? I've had 12 players in a Natural Selection (HL mod) server without any lag.

There is a free UT2003 dedicated server that you can download. Do a Google search for UT2003DedicatedServer2166b.zip to find a suitable download location.
              A UT2k3 server requires about 35 kb / sec / user.

OK, sounds good. Probably won't take much more bandwidth than NS. I've run a few different games on my server, and by far BF1942 eats the most CPU and bandwidth. It was lagging with only 10 players (768kbps SDSL).

So what game should I set up the server for? I'm not familiar with UT2003 so I don't know about the game types. I assume it uses a config file like UT did. If you guys want the same config as SitFlyer's server I suppose he could just send me the file. My server is usually running Serious Sam though, so the UT2003 server wouldn't be up all the time. Just message me, either through AIM or ICQ (check my profile) and I'll start the server up if you guys need it.

                  Very, Very Soon™ Now

I'm in the process of configuring the new server. I should have it good to go by this evening. Dang, I'm excited.

I'll also be able to allow downloads now (found a redirect server that I can use), which is super-

                      Minor Update

As with my previous server Oboy has been given access to the Web Administration Interface.

Downloads are now enabled in game.

Also, sometime Soon™, I might put MapVote on.

If any of you have some favorite maps you've been playing, let me know and I'll upload it. My map folder at home currently has 1198 files in it.

                        Just wanted to say..

Thanks, SitFlyer! MURCers have really been in dire need of a place where we can all meet up from time-to-time for some fragging fun (since the Matrox server was taken down).
                        "..so much for subtlety.."

                        System specs:
                        Gainward Ti4600
                        AMD Athlon XP2100+ (o.c. to 1845MHz)

I hopped on the new server last night to test out the connection. It was pretty nice -- pinged at about 50 - 60ms.

Only problem I had is with the Maps....takes forever to download them and I'm on a 5Mbit Cable line....what maps are on it so I can get them someplace else?
Why is it called tourist season, if we can't shoot at them?
