Yeah, if you don't build anything that the Sims want...

You can stay above water. Build windmills a first, once you get about 5-6 of them, bulldoze them for a coal power plant, reduce the costs to the bare minimum. Don't build anything other than zones for the first 3000 people or so. Make sure you have short-medium commute times for your sims becuase no matter how high the demand for zones are, if they can't find work, they won't move in. Build rails with passenger stations. DO NOT build med/high res/com. Build lots of agriculture at first with a little med industry.
Once you get a nice commercial area, build industry right next to it, then it will build high tech. Don't forget to raise taxes to 10% for Dirty Industrial but leave everything else alone. You can go as high as 14% if you want. Build freight train stations. Make sure you keep building lots of residential in DESIRABLE areas. Make sure there are bus stops throughout your zones. Don't put water towers or water plants anywhere near agriculture or they will get polluted. Once you have a few water towers, you can bulldoze them and replace them with water plants. Oh, and don't expect a large commercial area for a very long time. Build commercial slow and make sure you use roads around commercial instead of streets.

EDIT: I forgot, build one firestation very soon. Build an elementary school soon to but reduce the funding. I actually had 400k cash with only 14,000 population without raising taxes except for dirty industry. It can be done

You can get him to manage an entire Sim-town, but I bet he barely does the billwork or cleans the house
Gigabyte P35-DS3L with a Q6600, 2GB Kingston HyperX (after *3* bad pairs of Crucial Ballistix 1066), Galaxy 8800GT 512MB, SB X-Fi, some drives, and a Dell 2005fpw. Running WinXP.

Helevitia i use a completly different stratergy to that i only build hi res of every thing, i got 82,000 in several hours play with this stratergy( up to 92,00 now )
I dont worry about argiculture or rail
build industial on the edge of the map
start a small strip of commerical in the centre and build housing either side of it
conect the two areas with road ( up gade to high way about 60,000)
you find you have major boom growth with this stragey
the only problem is that you have limited income (only about 3,000 to 4,000 a month) as you have to continually build to keep up with demand

im trying that stratery u put down at he momment
got 20,000 its a lot easer to do but the growth is a little slower

Perhaps they should change its name to "SimVillage"
All work and no play makes Jack a dull boy.

Sounds like another good strategy. That's the cool thing about this kind of game, there are so many ways to move forward.

I love this game...plays alright on my R9700, but I've been mostly developing smaller tiles in the Region. I had a really bad problem with running out of money at first, but found out that you dont over develop too soon and watch your RCI index. I think my biggest town has a population of 30 or 40K where most of the smaller ones are 10-20K region. I'm working on making an Industral city right now where its nothing but Industral zones and lots of pollution

check out www.sc4ever.com for a couple good links and hints for playing the game.

                              Edit: fixed link

Why is it called tourist season, if we can't shoot at them?
