I don´t think the performance of an early alpha-build will tell you anything(unless doom3 has been oficially released while I was looking the other way )

performance tuning is often done very late in the development.

This sig is a shameless atempt to make my post look bigger.

Well, I disagree with you. I think that the early indications show what Doom3 will basically run like on a Radeon 9700 Pro. But that is besides the point of this post.

      Anybody else?

Yes but the alpha version was designed for ATI and that is why it runs so well on the Radeon.

Come on guys. I am not trying to pick apart the P. I simply want to know how it runs.

If you want my honest opinion Doom 3 is going to run shit on a Parhelia unless you have a nice 4 gig cpu. Not to bash the Parhelia, sorry Kruzin but to be honest it runs current games sub standard, ie ut 2003. So imho stay with your Radeon Helevitia, and incase surround gaming has you interested, forget it as unless Matrox comes up with some miraculous driver I dont see surround gaming working well at all with Doom 3 thanks to poor performance. Even John Carmack hinted that it was going to be min spec for Doom 3.

            STICK with Radeon for GAMES!
Parhelia is great for everything else.

I think you are missing the point here. I am CURIOUS to see how the game runs on a P. I don't wish to buy one. I am not thinking about changing my graphics card to a P. I just want to know for knowings sake. That's it!

Yes it runs in some circumstances, but this alpha leak is optimised for Radeon so it either does or doesn't, and the performance is shit.

It ran like crap; even after you beat it down with the fugly stick. It mostly ran the title in the teens and suffered from graphical glitches.

Without good drivers it's only a piece of silicon

Compare the crappy screenshots from the Parhelia & what you can see on all other gfx cards:

                        Doom 3 & Rightmark 3D

It's a shame that a gfx card with such innovative and unique features like Surround Gaming, Hardware Displacement Mapping and 10-Bit GigaColor has so poor driver support.

Even it's the 1st gfx card which includes DX9 features, with no DX9 driver, how you can use them? And DX9 was released last year

The roadmaps of Intel, AMD, nvidia, ATI are public and you know what you can expect from them in the next months even years

From Matrox you don't know if they ever release a new gamers card or if their concentrate on their core market like business/medicine multimonitor solutions.
And if they release a new gamers card you are totally surprised after 18 months and longer.Like a magician gets a rabbit out of his hat.You thought you never hear again from Matrox from a gamers perspective.
Our point of power is the present.

I wouldn't full trust those pics as I ran most of the games they get coruption on fine on the Parhelia, ie Ut 2003

Well the main reason that the parhelia runs like crap in doom 3 is due to the lack of optimize (or bug) with the alpha eh buffer/channel/thing... I forgot

If that is fixed things will speed up a bit.
Hey! You're talking to me all wrong! It's the wrong tone! Do it again...and I'll stab you in the face with a soldering iron

                              2 things.

                              1. doom is not out

                              2. I'm getting annoyed not being able to play some games with friends because their card isn't fast enough, if carmack is smart he'll work just as hard making the game run at lower quality settings on older cards, than just to make the game look better graphically than any other game.
