      James_D:
I've tried Master of Orion 3 on the Parhelia.

No performance problems as far as I could see, probably because of the all-2d non-accelerated game.

But I think the game itself sucks... MOO2 was Much better.

        Yes, but mainly AmigaOS3.1.
(since MacOS is nowadays so much faster on the PC using the Basilisk JIT version and mostly was used to counter those cases where you absolutely needed M$ software....)

MorphOS is great and is what the PPC Amigas should've been equipped right from the start - but unfortunately has quite a slow development (no wonder considering the amount of people working on it).
Still hoping for a G4 Pegasos sometime....

Sick and wrong, I know, but I have been using my 3.06ghz machine just to emulate the Amiga OS with WinUAE. It's just so much nicer looking than windows XP.

Anyhow, to get back on Topic, there does seem to be a problem with Freelancer/Parhelia. The text isn't always transparent like it's supposed to be and just totally slows down some menus to a crawl. But the 'solidworks' drivers that are the newest on M's ftp site seem to work better with the game than the previous ones. I'm considering setting up a server for Murcer's if anyone is interested.

My line is only 1.5mbps Downstream and 384kbps Upstream, so I don't know how well it'd run...... Let me know what you all think. (played the game over the weekend at a network party and it was a blast!)

I get the very slow menus too.

The black boxes around the text is a known bug, listed in the readme.

I have a strong adversion against the current holders of the Amiga name, since they've not only been simply doing nothing and spreading false rumors but also been hindering any other real development of the platform.
Same goes for the makers of AmigaOS3.9 (Hyperion & Partner alias Haage & Partner) since they deliberately killed the PowerUP initative of the sole left capable hardware manufacturer (Phase5) by creating multiple incompatible Software standards - thus diversifying a already very small market even further. And they constantly promoted "other" "coming soon" PPC-cards of which (of course) none ever saw the light.

Fact is: Phase5 was the only company that ever released a working PPC board for the Amiga.
Phase5 was THE company that kept the Amiga at least half-alive after Commodores bancruptcy (while all the Amiga copyright-holders simply did NOTHING) by providing up-to date hardware to the platform like the first 68060 cards, the first real 3D gfx-card (although only a Permedia2, it was not that underspecced at that time), the only UWSCSI host-adapter, the only PPC cards,...

Unfortunate fact is also that they went under at least partly because of Haage & Partners evil wheelings and dealings together with some other companies like MetaBox (now look at what those really produced up to now, except for hot-air and lots of money for the owners from dubious stock dealings).
And at that point the Amiga was officially dead.

So I won't support any software product of H&P, no matter what. Besides, OS3.9 in reality is not much more than a tuned-up 3.1 with many addons mostly to the GUI that most Amiga users have already installed: MagicUserInterface, a graphic-card standard, the AHI soundstandard,...
So I should probably name my system OS3.1++

Thanx man, that explained alot. Well it was comodore, with it's stupid A600 wich ruined the buisness.
I still have my original A1000 at the addict. Still working fine. Though I don't use it much. Though the A3000 was my finest machine ever, a machine with a soul..

Yeah the P suffered a Major chop when you engage the engines on Freelancer. Not to mention when someone's server chops and kills you cause you can't move, huh leech??

Some new drivers should fix this issue, I'm hoping.

Not my fault your ATI couldn't render the scene of us blowing up! Besides it wasn't anything to do server side. And Scumhawk just forgot to turn off FAA (that's what was causing his slow down, I had none). Besides, it's not like your machine could have run the server any better, Mr. 1.67ghz of SLOW AMD tech

                            OK, same problems here.
Heavy slowdown in buy/sell menue (ship equippment = guns,...; only Missiles and Mines menu is fast here) and engine engage.
Don't know which driver it is.
I had some stuttering in mission 13 where you go into the sphere to blow the generators up and when there were astroids + a lot of enemys.
The rest was smooth - but the game (story) was to short.

                            I'm running a AMD 1.2 GHz Athlon (256MB SD-RAM) + Parhelia 128 Retail.

I was just looking at Microsoft RalliSport Challenge config files hoping that I could somehow enable Surround Gaming.

                                Look what I found in Server\RSCPCConfigDatabase.txt !
There is mentioned Fusion G800, Fusion G450 and some Mistral also, that I haven't heard about before...
