It is an old game designed for old hardware, so it tends to work great on older cards. Because it is so old there are no patches for it.

Oh! I was in my local GAME store this morning as you DO! .lol
and I noticed the MGS:2 box for PC and I was checking the specs and my computer of course met everything it required. Apart from one thing gfx card. The required spec listed the gfx cards that worked with the game and this is the jist of it Geforce, Geforce2/MX, Geforce 3 and Geforce 4. There was no mention of ATI or Matrox

ATI works (as I've said earlier), but with some glitches...

and afaik even tnt2 can run it...so who nows, maybe my g400 will handle it too in low details? sh2 works pretty good...

ATI is working on a patch with Konami.

Parhelia... who knows... I haven't heard any reports.

Matrox say they know of the problem but there honest and say an older game is not priority, they have also given me advice about getting it to run in software mode, though i havent tried it yet.

There being honest and trying to help, but it still sucks it wont go. I just bought mgs2 today (along with toca race driver for pc and doaxtreme vollyball for xbox)

so i will try that when i get in and see how it goes.. better kick the playstation 2's ass since it takes 9gig of install space

Metal Gear Solid 2 is 9gb installed? Damn! That's the size of all the space that I need for my linux install (with plenty to spare) That's just sick that games are that bloated these days. (though it is a pretty cool gaim, but Hell, even UT2k3 is only 3gb).

ok i was slightly wrong.. it needs 7.6 but its still a alot..

also for anyone thinking of getting it. it has issues running, the cut scenes seem to mess up

think ill take it back and trade it for ps2 or xbox version

but i got toca today and thats awesome

No game is worth that much space ..lol and trust me it will look and play better on a console than it will on Parhelia. Xbox Ver. is great I've almost completed it on one of the harder settings. Grreat game, trust me make sure you have some nice speakers attached to your xbox when you play this as man you are going to be in for one hell of a ride great story, great gameplay and the best MUSIC EVA !! oh and I would say it is better than the PS2 ver. as the graphics are sharper and the sound is is in 5.1. Though one thing you might want to consider is the making of CD that comes with the PS2 ver.

I think ill get it on xbox.. although the skatebording thing looks cool, my friend says the ps2 version has a rock remix of the music.. lol.. it might be worth buying just for that..

CMB, do you have a chance (second comp. maybe...) to check how (if?) it runs on g400 16mb class card?

Ultimate waste of GPU capabilities: MGS1 PC version on a Radeon 8500... (16xAF)+(4xAA)/(PS1_Textures+PS1_Geometry) = Still very, very ugly. I wouldn't mind the polygon count and low resolution textures IF the polygons did feel the need to get into arguments about how to intersect, and the textures didn't think they were made out of jello.

                          hehe
you got any games that do push your system???

toca takes a bit hit on mine when the replays show over 3 screens, dont think the game was designed to show all the cars and scenray at once

Neverwinter Nights, FS2k2, The Ur-Quan Masters. Wait... that one doesn't push the system either. The newest game we've bought was Starfleet Command 3, and that was only because Electronics Boutique had switched to the one exchange only policy, and the game we bought before it sucked even worse (don't remember what it was.) Too bad they had to get rid of their return policy, we used it often... nothing like buying a game, and being able to go "This game is a pile of rancid Gorn droppings, I'm returning it and getting something else!". I'm sure the game companies didn't like that though, probably thought that was just as bad as people who'd buy a game, copy it, and then return it because they "Didn't work/Didn't like."
