  • matrox m3d

    Hello!

I just purchased a matrox m3d 4 meg upgrade for my compaq. It has allowed me to enter the world of first person shooters and I've had a ton of fun with GLQuake and Hexen!

Do any of you know if there will be an opengl icd for doom 3 released for the m3d?

    Thanks!

I don't think anything will be released for m3d evermore.

I used to have an M3D way back when, pawned it off to my sister when the G200 was released.

Shure...... You can run Doom III with 0,00000000000001 FPS

                      m3D..........

Thanks for the replies guys. Since it seems there won't be a doom III opengl icd released for the m3d, I've ordered a voodoo 3 from pricewatch. At first I thought it was a little drastic to spend $30 on an upgrade for one game, but to be honest, the frame rates in quake II were a little undesirable at the 800x600 res that I like to play at.

While a Voodoo3 will have a better chance at running the game, don't count on it performing well.
That's also an antiquated card compared to whats out there now, and you can bet they won't be writing the game with a card that old in mind.
And the chances for future drivers for that voodoo3 are about the same as they are for the M3D, since 3DFX is no more.

With a used Radeon 9000 running about $50, that is the best bet for the lowest price.

I have to correct you Kruzin, the chances of drivers being developed for the Voodoo cards are actually better than for the m3d, because some enthusiasts are still working on new drivers (and releasing some, from time to time)
