How do you make a game launch only in the second monitor?

I just got a Parhelia today and have been fiddling around with the dual head property. For what I do most of the time, the "1 display + 1 feature display" combination is best. I want to use the primary monitor for the task bar, email, chat and anything else I want to keep constantly open and visible. The second "feature" monitor is for applications with its window maximized. That includes games.

The problem is that the game wants to launch in the primary monitor always. I have not found a way to "train" it to open in the feature monitor. It does take over the whole monitor, task bar and all, like most games. I am playing Age of Mythology only at the moment.

With regular Windows apps, you can resize the window in the primary monitor (something games don't allow you to do), drag at least 50% of it to the second monitor, hit the maximize and it will maxime on the second monitor. And that window setting will be remembered the next time you launch the same app.

Most games are coded to to run one one montiro and that one is the first one. For the game to function properly, it has to support Dual-Head.

Hmm. a no-can-do. That's what I was afraid of. Oh well, I guess I stop playing PC game from now on just because of that

      Thanks for your insight.

THe difference is when you put the card into stretched desktop mode. This works best with monitors of equivalent size. Some game work fine in for example 1600x600 while others have some stretching and FOV problems, but others would know about stretched-mode better than myself.

          low tech solution

          Switch your monitors..
          all other proggies on secondary...
          games etc on primary..

            LOL ... so many options

            here's my 2 cents:

setup your monitors to run in independant DualHead (incl. feature display), because "feature display" alone is only meant to display overlay video in fullscreen on your 2nd monitor (or TV for that matter)

if you want to run any game on VGA2, the game itself must offer an option which device to use for rendering, ie. in independant DH mode you have two separate display devices, that both are capable of rendering 2D and 3D.

Kyodai Mahjongg for example has a drop down box for selecting which device to use for running the game.

If all that is not working for you, you still have an option to configure your VGA2 to be running as primary display device and drag your taskbar back onto VGA1.
Maybe that will make all games automatically run on VGA2, but I'm not 100% positive.

Doesn't Star Trek Armada support Dual Head??

Don't know about other games... but perhaps there more older games out there supporting DH.

It does but it sucks. The little 3D view is all that appears on the second screen.

What Maggi said: VGA2 = primary, drag taskbar to VGA1.

                  low tech simple solution.
