  • Tribes 2 and Parhelia...

Does anybody has any experience of Tribes 2 (latest patch) running on a Parhelia (different drivers versions)?

The performance is terrible under openGL and under D3D the Game switches from the matrox renderer to a microsoft/windows driver, very bad performance too (works better on a sucking GF2Pro!!!).
I can't imagine how bad the performance would be with triple head

Of course it is a problem if the latest patch for a game is older than your graphic-card , but does anybody knows about the problem or possible solutions?

    Thanx for any opinion

If there's a demo, I'll give it a shot. In Linux or Windows. Kind of annoying to me to find out that there is a game that I might want to try out that runs like ass on the Parhelia.

        Hi leech,

        here's a link to the t2 demo

If you give it a try and post the results, thank you very much .

Do you play wolfenstein: enemy territory (the free stand-alone addon)? Bad framerates with parhelia too, perhaps because it is a old game which is not official supported...

Wolf: ET runs absolutely fine on my Parhelia (Athlon XP 2000+). Perhaps it's time for a faster processor?

Yep ET runs fine on my Parhelia. No graphics or performance problems so far (altough FAA doesn't work really well on the railgun map).

Enemy Territory even runs quite well under linux with the beta GL drivers on the Parhelia.

Well, I see, ET seems to perform well on Parhelia.
Normally games with Q3A-engine perform very well on my system too , I think Firewall and virus auto-protection (costs a much of 3dmarks if you bench with) running during online-playing are a kind of 'performance-brake' on my system.
Yesterday tested ET without this software running in the background while playing on lan... ...and all was quite fine.

...wonder why this is no problem with BF1942, runs wonderful with FW & AP and so on.

I know about the FAA problem on railgun ... FAA doesn't like fogs very well, would be interesting if this is fixed in P-6/750 too.

@leech: Please, please, could you give t2 demo a try?

                Thanx for all replies

Tribes2 does run fine on linux, haven't tried it out in windows Yet. the Sierra link you gave me doesn't work! I'll find it soon though, I'm trying to download it through 3dgamers.com as well, and it's just sitting there. Sorry it took so long, kind of slipped my mind.

@leech: Thank you very much for try, but I don't know how it runs on Linux, I use winXP.
Further the link works fine on my pc, strange things happen .

Well the link itself worked, but after entering my email address and date of birth, the Download File link is the one that doesn't work. Says the file no longer exists. The 3dGamers Tribes 2 demo is borked too! Says it has the wrong file size. I did manage to find an old CD of it, but let's cross our fingers on whether it'll install off of it or not (it was pretty messy, guess I spilled something on it *laughs*) I'll post an update if I have any luck.

Ok, update. Finally got the demo (had to ftp into Sierra's site to get it) and it works great, Loaded it up in 800x600@32 in D3D and it worked VERY fast, no problems at all. Though I think it flashed some of the textures white for a second.

Edit: Cranked up all the settings, changed it to OpenGL and the resolution is set at 1280x1024 and still, smooth as silk.

Really? Don't understand why the game doesn't use my parhelia drivers instead of the windows renderer (tried three different driver versions).

However, Thank you very much leech .

My suggestion would be to uninstall the game (just back up whatever save games, but probably won't need the actual config files) then uninstall the Parhelia drivers, then install the latest ones, then re-install the game and try it out then. Could be that Tribes2 had configured itself for an older card you had in your system, I've seen GTA do that very thing, where you had to re-install it after changing video cards or drivers. You could also just try uninstalling then re-installing the game. Though also take note that it was the demo I got working, not the full game. So it might just be a problem with one of the patches. (89.1 MB for the patch and yet 81.2mb for the Demo... go figure..)
