That was quite entertaining in the least. I was speaking of the whole Star Trek thing at work the other day. I do think that (with the possible exceptions of video games which I'm sure could be coming out forever...) the Star Trek franchise is at it's end. I don't think any of the NG crew is willing to make another movie, DS9 finished in the series, as did Voyager, and Enterprise I've never even watched, but is still in syndication. What else really can they do? The movie side of things is definitely over with.

Now back more on topic, if he's going to DevRel, does that neccesarily mean that surround gaming is out? In my eyes that could be a good thing (perhaps we can get some more driver updates....) Not to mention doesn't that also include him being in relations with developers from other companies? Which would be the same as what ROM has been doing. Getting in touch with the game developers and having them add Surround Gaming to their software.

But of course I could be TOTALLY wrong in this. It just seems to me that he's just not in Tech Support anymore, which does NOT mean that Surround Gaming is dead.

He was never in Tech Support.
He's been in Dev Rel all along.
      Games Dev Rel.
Now he will be in CAD Dev Rel.
There will be nobody solely dedicated to games any longer.

Matrox only had one edge on the gaming market today.
        Surround Gaming.
Everyone knows M cards can't touch ATI or NV in FPS counts.
So, thanks to DW and his 'restructuring', they are now going to forsake what little part of the game market they had.
        Thanks Dan.
Even though the P core could have been further developed to be a real competetor, you have convinced the bosses that it's not worth your time.
Even though ATI and NV sales are at an all-time high, and M is at an all-time low, you seem to think you can make a go of it by selling over-priced, half-speed cards to make a buck.

Thanks Dan. Welcome to the ranks of Trident and S3, where you used to hold the highest rating as premium cards.
        Good job

here's my take on things, matrox pull out of games and concentrate on whoever they sell their cards to now - medical, workstation ect, you can sell lots of cards here but not for a high unit cost. All the major players are trying to break into the high end cad and workstation markets and have got gamers sales to develope there technologies. matrox has no gamers so remains stagnant in developement. the others gain a technicl advantage and superior products so matrox exits the market. its been coming for ages but i had hoped that it would somehow be averted. thank you matrox and goodbye.

HEY!! Let's all pitch in a couple of bucks and buy Matrox, fire all the execs and make Haig Prez and revamp Matrox Graphics once in for all

Actually just to add that Matrox Graphics is strong! ok so they pulled out of the gaming market but they are still strong in the workstation/CAD/Medical arena.

I would rather have a Matrox card in my office PC than an ATI or NVidia any day!

            Cheers,
            Elie

Personally, I don't mind this move within Matrox so much, as I got the Parhelia mostly because it is a good all-around card and CAD use will definitely be more important than gaming in the future.

More likely than not, I'll just build another computer for gaming as time goes on...

From Haig's mouth (or his fingers in this case....)

as of this coming Friday, the surround gaming forum will take a slight turn
regarding Matrox participation. Due to new tasks, Omar, who was part of our
Marketing department, will no longer be part of this forum.
According to Haig, he was in the Marketing department, not in Games DevRel. Also, Haig states in the same thread...

Technical Support will take over this forum and will participate in threads where our clients are having problems with supported surround gaming titles.
So to me this sounds more like Omar (ROM) is no longer on the forum (it does not specify where he went to) And in fact it will be handed over to Tech Support (Haig for Prez!) Whether this is Good, Bad, or just Ugly, will remain to be seen....

From the thread in their "Industry Chat" forum, Haig said:
Omar was Developer Relations. Game developers would contact him directly for any info they need.

Thanks for joining the discussion, Haig. Quick question, where was Omar moved to?

What exactly are the consequences to the Surround Gaming feature of the Parhelia. I was only recently able to get a triple-head set-up and will be majorly pissed if I did it for something that will no longer gain anymore support. It was one of the main reasons I bought the Parhelia.
