just bought Unreal2 The Awakening on eBay

as the title says, I bought Unreal 2 for 9,60 € incl. packing and shipping costs and it should be coming next week.

Now I was wondering what kind of experiences you guys might have with that title and why in the world it seemed to have been completely ignored.

What I mean is that there was some fuzz about it when it was in development, but it got more and more silent towards it's release and afterwards, I heard nobody mentioning it anymore ... can't be that bad, can it ?

I already d/l'ed the Multiplayer Extension Pack and the Community Bonuspack, as well as the 7710 update ... anything I forgot, could need or you would recommend to add ?

The bonus XMP pack is a lot of fun online, but a lot of servers have moved to utk4

Played it and liked it, but it was even for me too short. I'm, not that superduper-fps-hero, but i needed only approx. 12 hours to finish it and 12 hours for 49 euros (at that time) is not what i would call a "good value for the money".

And just by the way: do you still play with your 3d-glasses?

I guess, I wouldn't have bought it either, if I hadn't found that cheap offer.

Online gaming is still a no-go for me (28.8 modem hell), but maybe some time in the future, I'll move to ISDN.

Are there any bots that can be used for the Multiplayer mode and do they offer anything else than deathmatch mode ?

I'd love to, but the DX driver that I purchased almost two years ago (VRCaddyXP) is based on DX8.1 and doesn't work anymore, on top of that is the company's homepage not been updated for more than a year now and all my attempts to contact them, never got answered.

Basically the same applies to the Wicked3D drivers I bought in the same timeframe that are supporting OpenGL, ie. the Wicked3D section on Metabyte's pages vanished completely and all my attempts to reach their support are being ignored as well.

I guess it should still be working though, cos OpenGL is not as deeply built into Winblows as DX is, but I didn't find the time yet to set it up with my new Radeon.

Its a decent game. I completed it. As Rakido said it is on the short side. But good fun.

As expected, the graphics were nice. The story was so-so and the enemy AI was not real great. I played the game on normal difficulty setting and almost never died -- I actually played through some of the later levels using nothing but the default weapon just for more of a challenge. Overall, not a bad game... just not great.

Just completed Homeworld 2 yesterday. Gosh that was long. Excellent game very addictive but highley recommended, lots of problem solving involved

I found the trick for re-enabling full gore, since the menu item was blocked in this German version.

The missions are pretty nice, just what I like, although some are rather short and the weapons come also in interesting flavors for my taste.

Overall, it was a pretty nice purchase, but I failed to find a proper update for the game, cos all I found was some Retail patch on www.unreal2.com that starts to update the game, but a few times, I get a warning requester that tells me, the patcher found different versions of several files and hence it wouldn't update those, but after it installed all other files, the game engine just crashes away, forcing me to reinstall the whole game again...

Anybody got a clue where to find a German update ?

Also, I failed to make a safety backup copy, any pointers for that ?
