So you're still going for the PE Dave? I haven't decided yet but I'd rather have a cooler, shorter card than the BFG 6800 GT oc I'm using (also would prefer good analog PQ in case I have to use it versus digital). Time to up your processor or oc. I played a bit with mine and I think it hit 3.5 GHz but I haven't done any real testing yet.

Well, US$200 = CDN$266, plus electronics are generally a little more pricey up here, so no, can't do much better than that.Originally posted by Wombat
Damn, you can't get better than that on the 9800? The 128MB 9800Pro can be had for $170-$200 now here.
Would you pick the 9800Pro over the FX5900XT?Lady, people aren't chocolates. Do you know what they are mostly? Bastards. Bastard coated bastards with bastard filling. But I don't find them half as annoying as I find naive, bubble-headed optimists who walk around vomiting sunshine. -- Dr. Perry Cox

I've only got a 1.47GHz (1700+) machine at the moment, with no plans to upgrade for at least 6-12 months.Originally posted by Helevitia
Something else to consider, if you have a 2.8-3.0GHz CPU, no need to upgrade it becasue the FPS don't scale with higher CPU's. The FPS stay the same, which is kind of weird.
I heard somewhere that Doom3 is capped at 60fps regardless of system performance or quality settings.Lady, people aren't chocolates. Do you know what they are mostly? Bastards. I'm still planning to get the PE. Personally, I am not a huge Doom3 fan. I am really looking forward to HL2. The hardware guide talks about running the game at 1600x1200. I don't like to run FPS at that resolution. I prefer 1024x768 because at 1600x1200, some things are just too damn small. And like you said, the 6800 is bigger and hotter.Originally posted by xortam

And not that it matters much, but ATI said that they are working on a driver to boost speed in Doom3. New OpenGL driver maybe?Ladies and gentlemen, take my advice, pull down your pants and slide on the ice.

Yes, JC said that it is capped at 60fps, which makes me wonder why they bothered to run all of the tests?Originally posted by agallag

the internal game "tic" for physics and movement is 60HZ, if your video card can render more frames it will.Last edited by Marshmallowman; 29 July 2004, 18:46.

thats just like how Quake3 was capped at 85fps, I believe. and quake and quake 2 also had framerate caps. this is one of the things that the timedemo modes disabled.
Marshmallowman - no, there is a framerate cap too. you have to disable it to get above 60fps."And yet, after spending 20+ years trying to evolve the user interface into something better, what's the most powerful improvement Apple was able to make? They finally put a god damned shell back in." -jwz

the real question is, will Doom III run on the Parhelia?Originally posted by G400SG16mb
so, how does Doom III benchmark on the Parhelia?
my bet is no. i don't think it supports the extensions required for the NV10 fallback path."And yet, after spending 20+ years trying to evolve the user interface into something better, what's the most powerful improvement Apple was able to make? They finally put a god damned shell back in." -jwz
