Elaborate. I was going to play through the game of the year edition. I don't want any advantages or anything, I want to play it (mostly) as-intended. What does Source have that the game of the year edition doesn't?

Nothing, really. It's done in the new Source engine, but with the same textures and stuff. It doesn't look all that much better.

You can get HL2 cheap right now: $36 shipped: http://forums.murc.ws/showpost.php?p=530681&postcount=1
Gigabyte P35-DS3L with a Q6600, 2GB Kingston HyperX (after *3* bad pairs of Crucial Ballistix 1066), Galaxy 8800GT 512MB, SB X-Fi, some drives, and a Dell 2005fpw. Running WinXP.

Yeah there is no major differences, but the source one seem to run a lot nicer/smoother at high res does look slightly better(distance water...etc). I have played the orig HL1 a few times and was going to play it again but tried the HL:S instead and found I prefer HL:S. The difference are subtle but nice.

But I am still hanging out for the full new improved HL 1 source mod...I think its called black mesa or something. I have also heard if you are keen you can substitute some of the hirez HL Blue shift textures for some of them in HL:s to make it look better.
