  • Civilization IV

OK guys given all the issues with new games when using a Parhelia I just wanted to let you know that Civilization IV runs great

It is now in 3D but only requires a DX8 card so the Parhelia is perfect

Besides this new version of Civ is great !!! We have less micro-management to worry about (unless we really want to) and a LOT more to do with religions, governments, science and diplomatic relationships.

I think there are quite many things to discover even for old civ fanatics like me (started 15 years ago with Civilization 1 ).

    Enjoy

I haven't installed it yet, been too busy. Did they fix Civ3's OpenGL refresh-rate problems?

I HATE the fact that no game makers let you pick the refresh rate, instead defaulting to 60hz.

I'm not sure about the refresh rate. I haven't seen any option to change it and I don't know if it's set at 60Hz. I'll have to check this...

PAugustin, turn on FAA16X for CIV4, it helps with unit graphics a lot.

Otherwise, some of Ati owners had problems starting game as reported in civfanatics.com.

OK I'll try that when I'm back home, thanks for the tip ! It's true that the game can be a little choppy when zooming in/out or when there's a lot of units moving around. Especially since I'm running the game in 1600*1200

So far I love it. The AI diplomacy in CIV3/C3C was useless/irrational. They would declare war for no reason and without any chances to win and ruin relations for the rest of the game.

I like how they are done here, not going to war without a reason and allies actually being helpful.

Played it (and loved it) as well...I really like how polished everything feels - menus, wonder animations, really really nice
All work and no play makes Jack a dull boy.

Who have you played so far?

I tried Caeasar (of course), now having fun with Russians (Catherine). Will probably try Bismarck next (good traits, one of my favourite historic personalities).

Also love how units speak national language.

I started by playing Louis XVI and now I'm playing Ceasar. Next time I'll probably try the Babylonians or the Egyptians.

There are major issues with Ati and Intel GPUs reported in Civfanatics. Only some issues with nVidia, but those might be pebcaks.

I'm having no issues with Parhelia and FAA16x is working wonderfully.

It is just a little choppy @ 1600*1200

Do you guys use a P8x for playing Civ IV?
Tried to activate FAA16x here on my P4x, doesn't work , no glitches, just no AA, supersampling works... (using latest drivers)
If you both have a P8x, that would be a possible explanation..

                            Thanx for any reply

Yes I use a P8X and FAA 16x does work. I have no idea if it akso works on P4X, maybe it doesn't. Do you have the latest drivers ?
