  • Having problem with Need 4 Speed Most Wanted

    Hi guys,

    I got Black Edition (not demo, but full 4CD version) last night and installed successfully,

    but having problem with it..

    Whenever I tried to start with Quick Race, screen flashed several times and after that,

    all the 3D things gone..

    I rebooted and restarted the game but still gone, what is worse, all disappeared but texts

    in the main menu too..

    Only solution I know is changing resolution..

    For example, if I go through the problem with 640 x 480, changing to 1024x768 mode

    will help..

    But this isn't real solution because the problem will occur when I start to play again..

    I don't understand why this happens..

    (Before flashing(in yellow) the screen, for a very very short moment,

    I can see the cars and backgrounds normally, but after flashing,

    I can see cars very very very faintly..)

    I downloaded lastest driver from Matrox, installed and tried again, but only to fail...

    Anyone knows the reason why??

    I'll try with DirectX9 beta version driver this time, and I'll let you know the result..

    My system specs-

    CPU : Intel Pentium4 610 (3.6GHz 32/64bit)
    RAM : Samsung DDR-3200 2GB (1GB+1GB Dual Channel)
    HDD : SATA 920GB
    MAINBOARD : ASUS p5p800
    VGA : Matrox Parhelia 256MB 8X
    Audio : Creative Audigy
    OS : Windows XP Pro SP2
    etc :
    -Latest Drivers including graphic's
    -DirectX 9.0c

    ps. Underground 2 is still ok in the same system..

    ps2. I tried with Most Wanted DEMO just before, and the same problem..

    ps3. I also tried DirectX9 version matrox driver, but result.., don't know...

    because Most Wanted crashed at the beginning with blue screen..

    uninstalled and reinstalled and tried again, same problem, so returned to the regular version

    driver..

    The solution is simple.

    -Turn off your computer;
    -Open the case;
    -Inspect the Parhelia;
    -Carefully remove the Parhelia;
    -Pack the Parhelia in a padded container suitable for shipment; and finally...
    -Send the Parhelia (postage paid--cause he's too cheap to pay even for that) to Gurm (PM him for shipping details).

    And voila, no more problem.
    P.S. You've been Spanked!

      Jenix : I have the exact same problem with my P8X and the NFS demo
      I guess we'll have to ask Matrox to look for a bug.

        hey,

        you mean, this is hardware problem not software?

        I'm in Korea, and I don't think this problem will get fixed that easy as you said

        cause there are only retailers in Korea who can't deal with such a big(?)

        technical problem... (this is just my thought, but I believe so...)

        I think mine(Parhelia 256 8x) is most expensive one as you know,

        that's problem I think..

        They may don't want to replace mine with a new one, so they probablby

        will try to talk me over that's not that big problem...

        I don't mean all the Korean retailers do this, but what I'm saying is

        I encoutered such situations several times and I'm affraid..

        (Of course major companies like Samsung replaces old one with a new one

        without asking what the problem is, but small retailers are problem...)

        anyways, I'll try as you said...

            If it's a bug it's either a bug in the hardware that's not been worked around in the drivers/bios or it's just a bug in the drivers.

            Either way, you've not got much chance of Matrox doing anything to fix it.

            To be clear, it very well may be a bug in the hardware, but Matrox won't be compelled to fix it because they don't officially support DX9.

            If it is a bug in the hardware they may have the option (depending on how bad the bug is) to work around it with a bios or driver update. Again, it's very unlikely that Matrox will put any effort into this issue regardless of the cause. It's simply not something that concerns them.

            The recent bios updates are probably for fixing esoteric bugs that they've found in the hardware. Those bugs being obscure enough that they don't feel the need to publicly state what the bios updates fix.

            I really hate to be the barer of bad news, and please don't shoot the messenger, but Matrox is out of the gaming business. As much as it probably breaks Haig's heart that the driver engineers can't/won't put any effort into tweaking drivers for games or putting in fixes for certain games (no matter how small those fixes may or may not be), Matrox tech support simply isn't able to help on this type of issue.

              Yes, the solution is simple - send the card to me. Seriously. I'll pay shipping.

              I'm the least you could do
              If only life were as easy as you
              I'm the least you could do, oh yeah
              If only life were as easy as you
              I would still get screwed

                Jenix : see specs in my signature

                I agree with schmosef, if the problem comes from the Parhelia hardware it is unlikely to be fixed. If it is a driver (software) issue then we might have a chance.
                I posted this over at Matrox tech support forum so they might take a look at it...

                I saw you did too and RichieG is downloading the demo to test

                      Guys, and what am I to do? I've got some really weird problems with my HUD: the thing is that I can't see the amount of NOS (green bar), the pursuit breaker (to my mind the yellow bar) and... I can't see the map and the minimap! I can see the objects (like events/shops and etc.) but I don't see the roads!
                      I've got the latest drivers for my parhelia (128mb agp) installed...
