Wow, not since Deus Ex have I been gripped so quickly by a game...even though it requires a beefy system to look good, as opposed to Quake4 I can actually see where all those huge textures and C&GPU-eating shadows are...it's extremely atmospheric and features the best use of light & shadow I've ever seen in a game. Give it a try, you won't regret it!

Oh, and it might also take the record for the largest game ever, the (only) install size is 4.8GB

I didn't like it too much, found that as I lowered details so I could run it smooth, it lost too much quality - preferred quake4 in this aspect, you can run quake4 low detail at 1024 and it still looks REALLY good

The team that does Red vs. Blue has created a short series called PANICS using the FEAR engine. Not as funny as RvB generally has been.

What's wrong with that? It's a pretty capable graphics card...usually the top product of the previous generation is on par with the mid-range product of the current one...my 128MB of video memory couldn't be helping that much either.

FX were quite bad in DX 9.0 AFAI remember...

yeah, in older games it is on par with or even better than a 6600GT, but in DX9 stuff its not very good I actually run quake4 at 1152x864 low quality, but really only because I play online too, so I like my framerate to be silky smooth In single player I have no problem playing 1280 medium detail

as for FEAR, when I have to drop so many settings, I'd rather just play an older game that will really end up looking BETTER

(by smooth or silky I mean 60+ and never dropping below 40 for more than a fraction of a second)

I got the card for 300 bucks a few years ago when my brother wanted to get rid of it for a 9800XT, so for that price it has done quite well over the years, looking at upgrading with a NEXT gen ATI or NV card (unless a PII comes out) soon, gonna have to get a 478 board with PCI-E though, which might be hard to find down the road (I know I can still get an asrock one, and ASUS technically has them, although I've never seen them for sale).

I liked it much more than I thought I would. First game in along time I played all the way through. It's amazing on a high-end system. I was really drawn into the mood.

I'm sure once I figure out what dx9 settings to turn off and which to keep on I will find a nice balance between looks and playability

I got it for Christmas, too. Haven't installed it yet though, just got home.
