I've been waiting for this game, but I'm not going to subscribe to fileplanet

Proof positive that iD has completely sold out.

(Not the in-game ads... I think those are a clever and relatively harmless to raise revenues and keep costs down/free! I'm talking about the fact that you have to pay to join FilePlanet to get into the beta!)

        I would still get screwed

I've had a paid fileplanet account for the last 3 years now, over that time I've split it 3-4 ways, so its pretty damn cheap and I get into lots of Beta's, fast dloads (maxes out my line, 10mbps), etc.

It's a beta. Generally speaking, betas often require some sort of special status or membership somewhere. Given that the beta in question requires the consumption of large amounts of bandwidth by a (likely) large number of people, I don't see how iD offloading it to a file download provider who offsets costs via paid memberships is anything but a smart handling of resources.

It'll end up on the p2p/BT networks anyhow, so whatever.

As far as in-game ads go, as long as they're respectful of the game environment, then I honestly don't see what the problem is.

The problem is you need a key to play the (closed) beta. I know some people that played the private closed beta and they are pretty positive so far still lots of small bugs but it's a beta after all.
