I was really looking forward to 3D Labs bringing some of their high end know how to the market. The fact that the Permedia 3 has three texture units (allows for texture, lightmap AND bump map to be done in a single cycle) and that some of the benchmarks shown on the 3D Labs site were outrageously fast had whet my appetite.
Marlin and I had a big discussion on which would be the better chip, Permedia 3 or G400 (embm vs. dot3 over in the ever so reliable Matrox Hardware forum). It looked like it would be close.
Now some benchmarks have been produced and they are not good
