You're definatly doing something wrong. What I don't know. How does the card perform in other games? What was the last video card you used for the game? Are you running a custom autoexec.cfg? We need more info to work from...
Core2 Duo E7500 2.93, Asus P5Q Pro Turbo, 4gig 1066 DDR2, 1gig Asus ENGTS250, SB X-Fi Gamer ,WD Caviar Black 1tb, Plextor PX-880SA, Dual Samsung 2494s
I think I fixed it.. (I believe it was v-sync)
anyway.. on my Celeron 433 + 128ram + G400
I got in quake2 @ 16-bit:
1024x768 demo1.dm2 54.8fps
1600x1200 demo1.dm2 28.9fps
1024x768 crusher.dm2 29.1fps
1600x1200 crusher.dm2 23.4fps
Part of the problem is crummy Matrox Open GL implementation. Hopefully they'll be working to fix that. 25-30 fps at 1024x768 is consistent with other benchmarks.
This is pretty sad, when it can't even match a Voodoo 2 or TNT setup in OpenGL
Yea I would have to agree that there is something wrong. Because even with my K6-2/400, and we all know how bad the AMD chips do in Quake based games, and the G400 32MB I can get over 25fps in the massive demo at 1024x768x32bit with 32bit z-buffer on. In demo1 at the same res it's over 35fps.

Libertarian is still the way to go if we truly want a real change.
BTW: I was talking about Q2 not Q3 and 25fps was for the massive demo not demo1 which was over 35fps. These are also run with no specialized config files and sound is on with all graphic settings at max. And we all know that yes the Matrox drivers do need some more work but we also know that Q2 and quake based games are optimized for the pipelined FPU of the Intel chip which means the AMD chips do not do as good in them as the Intel chips.
Joel
PS: The 3DNow! optimizations that were done for Q2 were done specfically for the Voodoo chip set thus also giving it an advantage.
