Quake2 at 16 bit and desktop at 32 ??

Some how off topic guys .. but dunno where else to post this ... but anyways ..
I want to have my desktop set at 32 bit and run quake2 in 16 bit mode .. is there a setting for this ? probably in the autoexec.cfg ??

Don't think thats possible since quake2 uses what your desktop uses.

If i remember correctly .. i think someone posted a custom autoexec.cfg which had a setting for the color depth .. maybee that was maggi .. not sure .. but i don't have that file anymore .. anyone else have any hint ??
