  • Red Alert g400 problems

I am having GFx problems with red alert, there ia a red/orange interference sweeping over the screen during play. I have the same problem with Rollercoaster Tycoon (same engine?). The interference is like sweeping TV interference(lines not fuzz).

Does anyone get the same thing/ have a cure.

    I have a single head 16MB g400

    Thanks for any help

    People still play Red Alert?
No, seriously though, I actually tried it last night, and had no problems... I'll have a look though.

Yeah, I'm really surprised to see someone still play RA. What are you doing? Practicing for TS? It finally went gold after like a million delays. Just a few more weeks before I can get my hands on that game.

LOL. Yeah, maybe buying it some flowers will make it work right. Well, if I were you, I'd just put back RA on the self and forget about it. Maybe the G400 doesn't like your monitor? Just 23 days more...

MSDUK, concentrating on the Rollercoaster Tycoon, what resolution do you play it in??

And yes, what are your system-specs, besides the G400SH ??

Maybe my monito r is pretty crap - ity is a belinea 105020 or something (17in).

              P2B
              Celeron 300A @464
              Asus SC-200 SCSI card
              Pioneer CDROM etc
              Crap modem
              SB Awe64

It happens in all res of RCT
600 and 800 but if i switch to 1024 the screen goes black and 'fills in' over time.

Oh yes just to boast i just made a killing on a hub 12 Port 10/100 auto switching SMC worth £600. The poor bloke didnt have a clue and i got it for £75 with about 3 miles of cable.

(For any atlantic customers, £ is currency like the $, roughly interchangeable when it comes to computer stuff and a mile is a little more than a KM).Sic

Thanks for any help. If TS is coming out soon then i shall bin RA adn wait but RCT i do play a lot. I suspect my monitor but dont have another one to try.

Well can't help you with RCT. Yes TS is going to come out this month. It just went gold and is supposed to come out on the 27. So just dump RA and forget about it. It probably is your monitors fault. I suggest saving up money and get a new one. Or you could try to reinstall Windows again to see if that fixes everything.

I tried this game too (and isn't it great! what nostalgia!) It worked just fine...

Does your monitor have an OSD? If so what refresh rate are you using? I don't know what I'll do with the info other than say 'erm.. thanks' but it's the only question I could think of to ask!

                    MSDUK,

Please plug out your monitor from the G400, and check if all pins on the back of the G400 are okay, so not bent.

If all are fine, then reconnect your monitor and pull on the cable... Do you see any snow, lines or whatever on the monitor?? If so, one of the wires in the cable is broken, or one of the wires in the socket is broken (also, if you see weird colourings on your screen, this could be the result of a broken wire in the cable)

If it happens, your monitor cable must be replaced, or you'll have to save some money for a new monitor.

If neither of these happen, check at the manufacterer of you monitor for a) what the max resolution is your 17" can do and b) if it's Plug and Pray and if there are new driver-updates available for the monitor.

I Hope you're using Windows98?? Or at least Win95 OSR/2 ?? (the one with the usbupdate package) ?? If not, and you're using Win95 OSR/1, then you should get the usbupdate package from some site...

USB you say?? (for those who do use Win95A and an AGP card and have problems... USB and AGP work close together)

                    Jorden.
